Swiping Spores Across Agar. Lines vs. Circles?

I am trying to figure out if the pattern on which one swipes spores across agar will help or hinder strain isolation later. Lets see if I can explain this without pics. (I really need a new camera) I have started 2 petris using ps. cyanescens. Both show cottony mycelium with no real signs of rhizos. I transfered random areas from each dish to new dishes. One of the transfers has 50/50 cottony/rhizomorphic growth. The rhizo side is outgrowing the cottony and actually starting to circle the cottony section which is to be expected. I will transfer the rhizo side to 3 new dishes.
The other transfers is still all cottony.
So here is my question. Would the way one swipes spores help make different types of mycelium visible? I am thinking if i just rub spores in a circle that I could be trapping good mycelium with a band of cottony. If i streak it across this will give the mycelium an inch of space to grow out of.
What do you folks think? Hopefully i was clear enough on the question.

I'd keep the spores near each other so they can germinate and then find mates. You can isolate from the leading edge of the growth that begins to spread out. You won't see much sectoring until after a few transfers, because there will be so many strains piled on top of each other.
If you were trying to breed monokaryons the procedure would be much different. In that case, you'd want to swipe in a continuous Z pattern back and forth from one end of the plate to the other. By the time you get to the far end of the plate, you'll be dropping single spores, which you can then grab as soon as they germinate. RR
