    #969400 - 10/17/02 04:15 PM (14 years, 8 months ago)

ok i just birthed my cakes 3 days ago and started getting pins yesterday...on most of the cakes there are maybe 4-8 little pins coming and on a couple of them there are small mushrooms coming out...this is the first time ive done this so i dont know but will there be more pins as the days go by? and my next question is, i had 1 cake that had a patch where the cake hadnt been colonized so i waited until it was fully colonized and just birthed it today...is that ok that i just birthed it today in a terr. with the rest of my cakes or is there a contam. issue that may arrise from this?
thanks.

You may or may not get more pins. Not all of these pins will necessarily fruit either. If they abort, pick them. You should expect to get more than one flush though so in that sense you should definitely be seeing more pins not too far into the future.

As for the cake that took a little longer to colonize; as long as it did fully colonize, and doesn't have a weird smell/discoloration issue than everything is normal. Keep your eye on it though, if it does contaminate you'll want to get it away from your other cakes asap. There's no harm in isolating it in a mini-terrarium if you are really concerned.
