Heads up firearm lovers.

it seems that instead of trying to take our guns, they will take the easier route and attempt to take the one thing we need to use them.

our ammo.

http://www.ammunitionaccountability.org/Legislation.htm

it will start with coding and a .05 cent tax PER ROUND, which will drive up the already high price of ammunition.

if we let them pass these bills, it will be the beginning of gun confiscation and/or nullification.  if you have an unregistered gun and buy registered ammo, they will know you have a gun they are unaware of, giving them reason to search.  OR they will jack up the taxes to a ridiculous level that will prevent anyone but the rich from affording ammunition.

this is being worked on NOW.  and you better believe that since the democrats are in power now they will push hard. gun owners need to voice their opinions in unprecidented numbers.

right now this is limited to being introduced in the following states:

Alabama,  Arizona, California, Connecticut,  Hawaii,  Illinois, Indiana,  Kentucky,  Maryland,  Mississippi,  Missouri, New Jersey,  New York,  Pennsylvania,  Rhode Island,  South Carolina,  Tennessee, and  Washington.

their levels of success in these states will more than likely determine how hard they push in other states.  i expect california, maryland, illinois and new york to pass this bill hands down.  the rest im unsure of.    i doubt success in alabama, indiana, kentucky, mississippi, missouri, south carolina and tennessee.

what are your thoughts and concerns on this matter?

old news, and not really a new tactic on they're part. If you remember, it was micro stamping last time I think. Its definitely not gonna happen here in KY

Not too worried about it myself because I reload most of my ammo myself. I can reload 20 rounds of .300 Weatherby Magnum 180 grain spire point ultra-high velocity for less than $16 where as a new box of the same costs anywhere from $48 and up. 12 gauge 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells are even cheaper to reload.

However, I do buy bulk ammo for my .22 rifle and for my S&W model 500. .22 ammo is dirt cheap when you buy in bulk and .50 caliber magnum ammo is just too risky to reload yourself unless you are an expert which I'm not. I buy it in bulk, .50 cal. mag. 350 grain full jacket hollow point at $324.99 for 200 rounds, even get a free dry box with them. Got six boxes so far.

I dont know if the OP mentioned but if the law goes into effect, handloading will be criminalized.

i dont think it will be criminalized, but you will still have to register the unloaded bullets.  either way, they want to know who has what.

"No later than January 1, 2011,
all nonĀcoded ammunition for the calibers listed in this act,
whether owned by private citizens or retail outlets,
shall be disposed."

Which means to handloaders that any stockpiled bullets will have to be used or destroyed...

"(a) Any vendor that knowingly fails to comply with, or falsifies the records required to be kept by this act commits a Class A misdemeanor.

(b) Any manufacturer that knowingly fails to comply with this act commits a Class A misdemeanor punishable by fine only not to exceed one thousand dollars ($1,000) for a first violation and punishable by fine only not to exceed five thousand dollars ($5,000) for second and subsequent violations.

(c) Any person who knowingly destroys, obliterates, or otherwise renders unreadable, the serialization required pursuant to this act, on any bullet or assembled ammunition commits a Class A misdemeanor."

By handloading after this date, you will be commiting a crime.

So IF this bill gets passed, and they dont make pre-coded bullets (which will still be an extra $0.05 a round if they do), handloading will be a crime.

i think youre misreading it wrong.

or maybe i am.

the way that reads to me is that any current UNREGISTERED and UNCODED handloading bullets should be destroyed.  it doesnt say anywhere that handloading will be illegal, just the old obsolete bullets will be.  it sounds like you will be able to still buy coded bullets and load them.

If that is true, I would like to see them try to enforce it, especially against individuals that hand load. In states like West Virginia and Kentucky, they would have to fine/ticket over 90% of the population because most people in those states have their first experience with firearms before the age of 5 years old and hunt for most if not all of their lives. Over 70% of those people hunt for food rather than just for sport. And then there's Alaska, where anybody that lives outside of the big cities have to hunt just to survive the winter.

And how would they enforce that against foreign manufactures and suppliers? Besides, I don't think that bill would pass for the whole country because of people like the NRA, lobbyist and individual gun owners.

As far as I understand, KY has already voted it down
It was just another attempt, key word :attempt. How would it affect foreign manufacturers?
Well, if the ammo isnt post stamped, it would be unavailable. Also, it would be a ban on surplus ammo.
