Birthing question

Hey there, I have 6 fully colonzized jars, and they have been like that for a week and some few days. I know the rule that you have to wait a week after full colonization before birthing. Do I HAVE to birth them after that one week or can I wait until primadora show and then birth them? Every other time I have done this something had shown in the week I am waiting and then I birthed them but this time nothing has shown after a week. So must I birth them after the one week or can I wait until something shows in the jars and then birth them? Is that okay? Feedback and advice wanted. Thank you.

If you want to do it that way, open the lid and fan it a little then close it back up to stimulate pinning. Once you see hyphal knots, go ahead and birth em.

I would just birth them. IME the cakes do show pins sooner if there is primadoria in the jar, but it's only a difference of a day or two than if you birth a week after full colonization. Your call.

i am in a similar situation as well. i am fully colonized in the jar but have yet to see primordia (using half pint mason jars with vermiculite). it has been about a week and i was just going to leave it for another week or two (though i am excited i just wanna make it fruit but don't want to be hasty....).
should i open the lid to allow a little air exchange? should i do that now or just wait a week to be safe? i just dont want to ruin my cake after it has taken so long to get to this point.
would dunking have the same effect as allowing a little air exchange? i know dunking induces fruiting but would i be safer just leaving them sit for another week or two and then opening the lid quickly for a little air to get in?

Dunking doesn't induce fruiting, it just hydrates the cake so when it does fruit, it'll fruit more/bigger mushrooms :-D
If it was me, I'd open the lid and fan it out a bit then wait for hyphal knots. Less work in the end.
But personally, I crumble all my cakes and spawn to bulk anyway.

So if I wanted to open the jar lids and fan it out a bit should I take out the dry verm layer I have on the top and fan? Or open it and keep the dry verm layer on and just fan it the way it is with the verm layer still on top?

the dry verm is there to prevent contamination. A fully colonized cake is resistant to contamination so the verm layer is useless once fully colonized.

The purpose of waiting a week is to allow the mycelium to consolidate its hold on the substrate. Birth, dunk and roll, and then expose to fruiting conditions. If you wait for primordia, the rolling can cause damage that aborts the pins, and the roll in verm is an important step. If you wait for primordia to form, skip the verm roll. RR

i guess i was thinking of the cold temperature in the refrigerator that induces fruiting to start? (dunking in the refrigerator).
i opened the jar lid this morning and fanned it a little and put the lid back on. any general idea when i might start to see hyphal knots?
tried to get a decent picture with my macro lens but the glass of the jar makes it hard to see...just wanted to make sure it looked alright to you. i would say it has grown completely through the substrate (and is now reaching up the sides of the glass). just waiting for knots...
