Sclerotia?
    #967793 - 10/17/02 02:11 AM (14 years, 1 month ago)

Hello all. I have had a jar of cube sitting around, idleing for quite a while. And there was what appeared to be this odd object that formed. Round, white, i thought it mightve been an invitro mushroom but didnt look like one. I let this sit for a long while, about 5-6 weeks after i noticed it. And it slowly grew bigger (flat because of the packed grain). It looked like wood grain almost, where it grew in layers. I also noticed a smaller one form too, inbetween the weeks i was letting it sit. Both did grow out of the mycelium, in a small between space of air. But, from all the invitro mushrooms i've seen, they normally bruise blue and rot, and this appeared to be living for a long time. I got a spoon and scooped it out, broke the smaller one open to investigate. It appeared to be solid, sort of a solid mushroom texture, flat, thin, but the meat was thick and yellowish. It did not bruise blue. That one was a touch bigger than the tip of a cigarette. The "big one" was a bit smaller than a quarter.

So.. any ideas on this? Think its an invitro, some type of nutrient deposit, invading fungus? I for one thought it was interesting. Kept in darkness, but couldve let a little light slip in.

Interesting..

I have read somewhere, a long time ago, that cubensis DO produce sclerotia under the correct conditions, yet, have never experienced or seen an experience of actually cultivating one..

Does it smell mushroomy? You have a picture?

i had one like that from the PF strain a year ago. i have since read that cubensis can grow "pseudo-sclerotia" a phrase coined by mycofile (i think)
