Inactive identification please?
    #967286 - 10/16/02 10:43 PM (14 years, 11 months ago)

Hi,
I found clusters of these mushrooms growing in bark chips today, how would I go about identifying them? I'll take a spore print soon, I think the spores will be quite light so would it be better to use dark paper?

Thanks

Use both white and dark paper, or better use a piece of glass.

Can you get a picture of the underside of the mushroom?

Hrm. I'm stumpped. I was going to say Cortinarius but the stem is not webby/scaly looking. I was also thinking Lepoita, but there are no scales on the cap. Possibly an Agaricus or Agrocybe?

ITs going to be almost impossible to ID this mushroom without any other information. You haven't given really anything to go off of. Nor have you responded, I dont understand why you want an ID if you arent even going to be around to give us any information. Why post an ID if you dont care, and waste our time looking?

Goddamnit.

Anyways, without any other information my wild guess would have to be Agrocybe pedides. The common Agrocybe. Edible, but not reccomended, not active, if thats all you wanted to know.

If you want to post another ID, please read and follow Anno's directions on this posting:

Jeez, I'm sorry. it's only been 7 hours since I posted.
I was just wondering what it is because I don't tend to see a lot of mushrooms around, then I suddenly see dozens of them in this garden..
The prints are far too light to be any particular colour, I'll get some more mature specimens tomorrow if you can wait that long

spore print appears to be medium brown, about the same colour as the cap. does that help?

Actually I'm sure that's the one. Thanks a lot

Yes brown points to Agrocybe.
A. dura is very hard (firm). Try to squeeze it, it's not as soft as other similar mushrooms.
