I managed to pick up a 3x6 ft  (yes, feet) flowhood for $500 no shipping (found it locally) about a year to year-and-a-half ago.  Greatest investment I've made in this hobby so far.

I'll be after a larger PC next time I've got the money set aside for this hobby.  (That will probably be a while though.)

3'x6'? man that's a good flowhood especially for that price. Must've been like moving a couch.

i voted NO.  the way i look at it, its just more shit that can/will go wrong, and extra parts that need replacing.  i cant help to put everything i own to the test of its usefulness in a post-apocalypse scenario.  as it stands with my AA941, when the chinese blow up the world, ill still be able to use it over a fire, and grow mushrooms using horse shit, straw, potatoes(agar/LC) etc.  NO power needed anywhere.  just fire and shit.  i love it.

less is more.
the machines will rise.

With the metal frame (fully assembled, because it's not easy at all to take apart) it weighs in at ~400lbs!  I only made the move once.  Three men and a furniture dolly/cart.

I can't believe the number people who don't care to own one.  Outside of the price, why not?  Omni, you realize you could simply adapt the same piece of equipment to be used over a fire also, yes?

I do like the simplicity of methods that don't require technologically advanced machinery or equipment, but we do have those capabilities. Why not use them to our advantage?  We can always go back to those others methods, provided we have at least learned about them, if the need should arise.  In the meantime, I'm lazy.

I would deffinetly buy that if I had the money, I have the same counter situation as you oatman, with the microwave over the stove, its deffinetly a pain in the ass.  Espessially because the mrs had a small stovetop fire once, which melted our old microwave so we had to get a new one, and the house smelled like burning plastic for a week.

I was looking at getting an AA921 and a stand-alone burner.

But this AA25X for $500/w ship, while being a little bit more expensive should be better in the end.  I didn't really like the idea of using some ghetto stand alone burner setup anyway.

941 has 25% more capacity than 75X for about $500-$600 less

It's about 50/50 in everyone's minds.

I like the idea of having it's own burner attached. Not to mention it's going to cut my pc time from 3 hrs down to 1.

all in the eyes of the beholder.

It would save space.... and also allow you to sterilize outside out of the kitchen.

if your serious about the hobby go for it. Having just done some grains for G2G I can think of how much I would like to have a similar unit. I had to do 3 goes in my 22qt pc to cook 26 1L jars. I bet if your really into this hobby that those would be a good investment.

You've been talking about buying one for a while. I'm glad to see you could afford to take the plunge in such a pitiful economy.

I'm curious, what is the power usage of one of those units?

I wonder what the operating cost of it is in electricity...

I use an old presto that can hold 9 quart jars... which is decently bigger than what most people have and I would LOVE to have a 941.  Next to my air return mixing box, its second on my list.

**EDIT**
Once you have it up and running, take some pictures while in use/loading =)

13.25 Amps is the max load i think...so around 1600 Watts... just gotta make sure you are using an outlet that is one a low use circuit...since most house circuit breakers are 15-20 amps...with the exception of the appliance circuits and the HVAC circuits

If it draws 13.25 amps, you can't legally run it on a 15 amp circuit.  Any appliance that runs for more than an hour is considered a continuous load, and the circuit must be de-rated to 80%, according to the National Electrical Code, which sets minimum standards to avoid fire.  Thus, you could only 'safely' operate it on a 20 amp circuit.

lol, yeah those r nice.. If you notice the regular 941 PCs only work with a actual burner. No glass tops or ceramic because they are soo large.
I wanted to buy a 941... but like everyone else ill make due with my presto til I hit the lottery or get my income tax back. Ill have to buy one like that also.. I have a glass top stove. =(.

Thats a nice big pot for pastuerizing bulk sub too.

Use 12/2 with ground.  It's VERY important that the body of the PC itself is grounded.
