It IS just a paper box. I have so many of these fans, I care not about waterproof at the moment. I am gonna make a more permanent housing, its just that during my thrashing of the house, and trying different things, I found this box and the fan fits in it like a glove. Most people use an old canning lid on top of the fan. Just taping the magnets on during testing showed I didnt have to. As far as materials: Hot glue 12v power supply from a old modem 12v led fan magnets from a HDD paper box
I DID however glue the magnet on since my last post.
Here is the splicing cover by a rubber "sleeve" that was already on the cord from the fan. I just slid it down to cover my splice.
Here it is in action in the dark.

You should search for "rare earth magnets". Those are what you're looking for. Here is the first site up on google; I haven't checked them out yet.

That won't work because on magnets like in the link each side is a magnetic pole.. One side is north and the other is south.. Where a Hard drive magnet is not magnetic on each side.. The ends are different magnetic poles like in the picture below.. So if you used one of the way earth magnets it would not spin the stirring device..

Old speaker. But you will need 2,because like the "rare" earth magnets, the poles are on opposite sides, not ends. So you would glue 1 + up and 1 + down.

why couldn't you turn the magnet on its side? I found an old bar magnet and that's what I did; works like a charm.

a Bar magnet would have opposite polarities.
Shroomy 1 used one by placing it into a bored out pieces of wood cut into a circle then glued both the magnet into the wood and the wood to the fan. Worked like a damn, it was just a really tall stir plate.

Hard drive magnets are easy to find and they work perfectly.
