homemade filter patch

i made a filter patch out of 3 gauze pads, and tyvek over top of that, taped to the bag with electrical tape, it's very much sealed, and i think it will work, the gauze pads are sterile, and the tyvek is over top of the gauze, it looks good, but will it work?
I like the bag method better than monotub for colonization, it colonizes faster, and it's cleaner, less susceptible to contamination

you sure that tape will hold in the PC?
im not sure the gauze pads are necessary or will even help, there are too many holes to act as any type of filter, its possible to just use tyvek if you are making a strong seal around the edges

the bags have been pasturized already, i made the mistake of putting the jars in there without a filter for air exchange, so i took it into my clean room, and clean some sheers with rubbing alcohol, i then cut a small square in the bag, and quickly put 3 gauze pads over it and taped the edges with electrical tape, then i cut a tyvek square, about 2 cenimeters larger than the gauze, and taped ontop of the gauze patch, it is airtight, and i can see some growth, even from last light. the grain to substrate ratio is almost equal, meaning, as soom as the mycelium recovers, and starts growing it should colonize the bag within 5 days. if nothing has happened by day 7, its phucked. and ill have to start from scratch, but if my ingenuity, and optimism, pays off, this will be the emergency filter patch tek.

if you have fully colinized grain or cake & spawn to pasturized substrate ,you should be fine , monotubs dont have filter patches and is basicaly same thing if i understand your post

Tyvek alone is pretty good, that's all I use for grain/pf jars. I use silicone rubber to glue it on.

yea, i think ill be alright, i clean my bathroom with pinesol- lysol, clorox wipes, then i put platic sheeting over everything the sink toilet, shower curatin, then sprayed all that down, then rubbing alcohol on my hands and arms, and put a dust mask on, and a hat to cover my hair. then did this whole process. put the patch on the bag, then opened it and put 2 jars of colonized WBS, in. ( i pasturized the bags last night). i sealed it back up with a zip tie, and shook it up really good, got the WBS all around the bag so there are knock up points everywhere. I stuck that SOB in the incubator, and thats it.

If you're talking about fruiting, there is NO need for filters of any kind. Fresh air is the best method for preventing contaminants in the fruiting stage. If you're talking about spawn generation, you can buy pre-made filter patch bags for 50 cents in quantity, and you can't make one for that price. RR
