My Araucaria heterophylla (Norfolk island Pine)

Hers is my awesome Norfolk Island pine. The tree is endemic to Norfolk Island, a small island in the Pacific Ocean between Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia. It is grown in Australia, and even Florida, but Norfolk island is the only place where it originally grows.I found two of these on the side of the road this past summer.they were brown almost dead, and not even in pots. Some idiot just threw them out I gave one to my mom,and kept one for myself.Well after months of nursing it back to health mine looks awesome I might add It was a really nice dark green, but the freezing temps we've had messed it up a bit. It's hard to believe that this guy was about two and a half feet tall when I first got it,now it's up to my neck!!! Anybody else ever try their hand at growing this awesome tree?

Cool, Araucaria is a great genus, here in Brazil we have Araucaria angustifolia up in the mountains in the south and then in the mountains of NE, nowhere else. Its under exctinction, people cut it for its wood.
I have a seedling of A. angustifolia but it doesn´t grows very much (at least it doesn´t dies).

Thanks man, yeah,it is a species of concern in it's native range due to the excellent quality of wood it has.Did you know they aren't even true pines? How old is your seedling?I wonder why it doesn't grow much?I've had to transplant mine three time in the past few months, because it kept out growing the pots, and getting so big and tall a slight wind would tip it over. For some strange reason my dog loves to set near this plant Oh,and I just saw your post bloodnashes666,it is a cool tree Umm your link of the tea rose didn't work.I really want to know what one is

I think you can have that on the ground already. Cuz if it gets as big as ours, there´s no pot that will be enough for it.
My seedling is some years old and doesnt grows much.

Thanks man, when I saw it,it really hurt me that somebody threw it out in the scorching sun to die.I always find plants that people give up on,and toss to the curb.found a bunch of Sago palms one time, and some Banana plants too. No,they aren't a true pine, but are in the pine family, not sure how that works

well think of it like this: those plants that you have found and got for nothing can make up for the ones that mother nature decided to take away from you

They are really cool. I still have one my mom gave me as a little kid. It is now about 7ft tall but growing slow due to being in part shade. When it was small, I used to have it on my window sill and decorate it with tiny ornaments during xmas.
They also grow them in coastal southern California, I've seen some probably 30ft in people yards.

They are a beautiful tree! I bet you can't wait, until they start giving (fruit?) the size of watermelons, and covered in spines!!! Used to have one of them growing in the backyard, i remember playing brandy with the seedpods/cones/fruit, made for an interesting time. Unfortunately, dad cut it out due to the roots protruding into our house structure and piping
They get mighty big, and leave a hellish mess :P

Yeah, they are a beautiful tree.I just hope mine will not over grow the big ass pot it's in before I move.Eventually I will have to put it in the ground, and I'm thinking I may donate it to a State park or something instead of putting it in my yard.I move around too much, and would end up having to eventually leave it.At least if i put it in a park,I could come visit it for years to come

Here's the pic of the tea rose.

A neighbor has a norfolk that is a good 12 feet tall, beautiful, reminds me of a tree i'd see in a zen garden.

my mom's family (when she was young) was in a similar situation when they found a paper bag on the side of the high way with an abandoned 3-legged dog in it.
they brought it home and nursed it to health and kept it as a pet.
you are a hero sir, much respect to you and your tiny dog!
