Call of Duty 4 LAN issue
    #9662712 - 01/22/09 11:42 PM (15 years, 2 months ago)

My roommate and I are having trouble playing on the same servers in Call of Duty 4. We are connected via Comcast and via a router. Hell, we can't even SEE the same servers when we refresh our lists. And when one of us is in game, and the other one refreshes, the person playing gets their ping all shot to hell.

Any thoughts? Fuck, I am having all sorts of internet issues.

1.7 server - }DTM{ - ROACH MOTEL  - 69.90.34.170:28960

Anyway, login to your router and see if the UPNP is enabled. Let me know if it is.

For those interested...the Devs weigh in.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting Activision’s Technical Support. I'm sorry to hear about your problem. This is a router issue not a problem with the game.

To setup for multiple users:
1) Right-click on the Call of Duty 4 icon you use to start the game.
2) Select Properties.
3) In the Target field you'll see a line like "C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\iw3mp.exe", add the net_port command to specify a unique communication port for each system. The complete field should look like this:

"C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\iw3mp.exe" +set net_port 28960

4) Click OK.
5) Repeat for each system behind the NAT, adding one to the net_port selected (28961,28962,28963 etc.. )

While the first player behind the NAT joins fine, adding additional players is problematic in the default configuration. Symptoms include rejected challenges, invalid cdkey, dropped delta packets, and severe "connection interrupted" messages.

By default, Call of Duty 4 clients send and receive data over the same port, causing the server to treat multiple clients as a single data connection.

My son and I have two different copies of the game. He downloaded his from a service called Steam (pardon my spelling if wrong) and I bought mine from a game store. Whenever we try to play together behind the same modem/router we get a "Connection Interrupted" message. After which, the server you were just on will not accept you for a short period of time. It's almost like an MD5 kick on Americas Army only there's no warning...you just get the "connection interrupted" message and icon then eventually is disconnects. I was given a fix for the router set up that someone on another forum suggested. His post was the following:

Go into your router and find your settings find this

UPNP Enabling

Make sure thats enabled that happend to my son and I and that fixed the CI problem

However, this did not fix the problem as UPNP was already enabled. Could you please help me. The whole reason I bought the game was to share the experience with my son.

My router is a Linksys WRT54G. I have comcast's highest connection speed. Both computers are good solid gaming computers.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Dave

Do the second part of that...It will change the port that the router uses so that two computers aren't using the same port. It fixes it for some people...And I have a feeling it may do the same for you.

If you need me to explain let me know.

that tutorial doesn't work for me. i use a shortcut to open my game, and when i change the target field for the shortcut it can't find the original location because i have changed it. and when i go to the game folder, and find the actual .sys file that opens multiplayer and go to properties, there isn't any target field option.

It has to be JUST like this...

"C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\iw3mp.exe" +set net_port 28960

Copy and paste that in the target field and hit ok...See if it works. I just did it.

Just random so you can run 1.0 and 1.7 patches. The new maps on 1.7 are :awesome:

1.) go to your C:/program files/activision/ folder
2.) make the windows small enough so you can see your desktop
3.) right click on your call of duty folder the one with something in it there may only be one...and drag it to the desktop...be sure to right click and hold it while dragging...
4.) it will ask you do you want to move, copy etc...you say you want to copy it...it should take awhile it's like 6 GB
5.) after that rename that folder to Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare 1.0
6.) then update your call of duty
7.) when you want to play 1.0 you rename the Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare folder to Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare 1.7 and rename the Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare 1.0 folder to Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare

Well for me the people I play with DTM we scrim in 1.0 mainly...But 1.7 has new maps, a cool ass zombie mod, custom maps, paintball mods...The list goes on. It has over 10,000 servers to play on.

Just if you wanted to do it I thought I'd throw it in there. Come visit us and play with us sometime.

Anyway, did you ever try it...If not I highly recommend you do.
