HELP! bugs on my t. peruvianus
    #965669 - 10/16/02 10:47 AM (21 years, 5 months ago)

i was very upset this morning when i awoke to see what seems to be bugs on my t. peruvianus. they are very small and greyish, almost powdery-like(if that makes any sense). i also noticed small yellow balls, almost like tiny water droplets, on the underside of the leaves of my caapi plant. im not sure if this is connected or not. has anyone seen this. please, my little ones need help!

I never like to spray poisons on my plants to get rid of insects. I prefer to use a mild soap spray to kill the little bastards. Just put a few drops of liquid dish soap into a spray bottle filled with water, and mist the plants all over the infected area. The soap will cover the bugs and suffocate them. Bug problem solved.

yeah, ill give that a shot. i have been closely observing it today and saw two skinny flylike insects who seemed to be mating. i think they must be the culprits. i wish i had a n. rustica plant. i hear the tobacco leaves make a good pesticide.

danger danger danger they are mealy bugs and will destroy your whole collection if left unchecked!!!! no joke. first thing to do is soak a q tip in rubbing alcohol and swipe all visible bugs off your plants. then uproot them and take a toothbrush to the roots to get them there . toss the soil, clean your pots and replant in new soil. I am fighting mealy on my peruvianus right now. cut off the base, swiped it clean, repotted and none have shown themselves again yet. ask any serious plant store and they will tell you, take care of that problem quick.
