hay for outdoor plots

My fish grows mushrooms. My fish said he is gonna dry out some grass clippings and substitute them for the hay in moe's outdoor tek, is this ok? also, can my fish substitute peat moss for potting soil to do a casing? My iguana grows weed and he said my fish is welcome to use some of his perlite, vermiculite, peat moss, or dolomite lime, if my fish needs any of these ,for mushroom growing. Any ideas for my fish? thanks. p.s. by bird says hello.

I would suggest wheat straw instead of grass clippings.
Not sure if grass would be very effective.

Pet Smart sells little bundles of timothay hay in the rodent area , is used as bedding for guinea pigs .
