Really depends on how big the pot is and how much space you intend to fill it with soil. I have a pot that can fit about 1L of soil in it. I put at the bottom layer (maybe an inch) of pearlite/soil 50:50, closer up it's just soil, and the top half inch or so is sifted soil so it can root. It's worked miracles so far and the moisture has lead to good germination rates. I left another inch and a half or so from the top for air humidity to really turn the 'dome' into a sauna.
