Clearish Myc

I inoculated 8 brf/verm cakes on 1/15. I have seen quite a bit of mycellium growth but its kinda clear with spots here and there being white.
Is it normal for mycellium to be clear before it turns white? I think I read something about myc being clear if the cake is too dry. However, I added more water than was called for in making my cakes because they looked dry... could too much water in a cake make the myc clear?

ahh give it 2-3 more days and if your growth is anything but pure white myc then it's contaminated. The secret to dealing with the patience thing in this hobby is to keep busy prepping grains or pf jars and pressure cooking and innoculating while your shit colonizes. This way by the time you are done with a week of jamming out the PC and knocking, your last batch of grain jars are ready and you haven't disturbed them at all! Now you have another step to throw in the mix...spawing! So now you have a few dresser drawers full of jars colonizing, a bunch of trays in spawn run on a shelf. You have time to get your FC or greenhouse ready. Once you are ready, the trays are fully colonized, you can now begin the master juuggling act of maintaining a FC, spawn trays, and grain jars...this takes up about every weekend I get but it keeps me in the loop. Good luck!

The reason is not the cakes being too dry, but being too wet. The same thing happens when you inoculate agar in petri dishes from a syringe. Until the mycelium grows out of the blobs of liquid, it will look clear and watery, not white like snow. That will also mean that your jars will most likely take longer than usual to colonize. Nothing critical, though.

If my jars reach 100% and are still clearish, should I wait longer than a week before removing the cakes? Or should I still wait a week and not dunk them but still roll them? They aren't close to being 100% yet, just trying to "get all my ducks in a row".

I think we need pics to make a more accurate synopsis before you birth the cakes.

Just found out my camera is broken I can fix it but don't have the motivation to take it apart right now. I just checked on them (when I went to take a pic) and the myc seems to be whitening from what it was... it's still not white though.

There are different shades of white. Thick white mycellium actually indicates a hidden contamination. We can't tell without pictures, we're just making guesses based off of a vague description. I would worry more about super thick white than I would thin white. Once again, no pictures, just guessing.
