Kitchen compost, anyone ever use?
    #964190 - 10/15/02 08:26 PM (21 years, 7 months ago)

You know the basic organic compost you get from all your kitchen scraps? Has anyone here ever heard of using that as being part of your substrate?

u can use worms to create your own 'kitchen' compost pile of sorts that is ideal substrate. There are things you cant put in the compost though, like spicy foods, acidic foods, plastics and a few other things.

Is there a list of these things? Mostly pertaining to acidic fruits?

Yeah, the compost I have has everything organic (fruit and vegtable peels, eggshells, old bread. Theres even some garden stuff like old flowers as well as ashes from a woodstove gets sprinkled on there once every couple months)
Just pretty much your run of the mill organic compost. And when you dig it up, there are worms.

Just wondering if this sounds like an OK substrate, or do you kinda have to customise the compost to suit ideal PH etc for the lifespan of mycellium etc????
