so are you saying that truth arises out of society?

if you can't find the truth right where you are, where else do you expect to find it?

You're going to have to clarify what you mean...

"seems that most "truths" have changed as time goes on."

hmm...

I'd say that truth changes with the discovery of new evidence.
I guess sometimes it could "arise" out of society...

I feel like I'm walking into a booby trap replying to this thread.....
No, I don't really seek the "actual truth" on these boards.
It's not something you can attain directly from the shroomery.
A bit of lively "contact" maybe, yes.

Yes I look for the truth in everything, all the time. That's what learning is all about, and learning is what I do in life.

Do I always like the truth that I find? No. Am I prepared for some of the possible truths I may find? No. Does any of this stop me from looking for the truth? Nope.

One thing Salvia taught me was that it doesn't matter how much I want to learn the truth, I might still run away from it when I'm confronted with it. I would still rather live life in fear knowing the truth than live in ignorance, however blissful it is.

I have truth.
It is love.

It is what we are all born with.
Would creation lie to itself?

I think it's time for bed...

You talk a lot, but do any of you actually have truth?

Let me refer you to my FIRST reply-
"You're telling me that Truth? is actually attainable?"

Some of us are okay with not being able to have infallible truths... why aren't you okay with it?

Safe people like thinking safely for safe living.
Gosh durnit... I want safety... and YOU SHOULD TOO!
Here are some new laws that will guarantee all of our safety.  I know... you're arguing about freedom now, but you'll be happy later when you're under our security blanket... just wait and see.

Thanks, but I'll sleep on top of the covers.

I'd like to know what is false. Then, by subtracting everything that is false from everything else, I could come up with the truth myself.

And now here's the problem. Religious people are quite good at telling truths, and a lot of these truths make sense. But when you ask a religious person for something false (and, assuming that a person knows everything that is true, that person would also know everything that is false) then they come up with the most ridiculous bullshit possible... ask someone to give you a major insight that is false, and he will immediately display his ignorance. No?

I'm sorry, I missed the point. I thought that you wanted to give some universal truths. It seems you didn't.

Anyways...

but the key IMO is to be honest within yourself as deeply as you can for as long as you can. Eventually, your bound to stumble upon more truth than the person who does not care whether or not they are honest.

If this means being honest as to what you experience, I agree. For example, if one experiences pain, one should be honest about it, look at it, and acknowledge it ("I am experiencing pain"). One should not try to run away from what is happening. But if you mean that we should find a verbal concept that is true, a honest interpretation of an experience, I strongly disagree. If we dislike someone, we often feel the need to come up with a rational explanation of that feeling. We only feel comfortable if we can repeat a phrase in our mind that justifies our feelings, a reason why we dislike a particular person. But the truth is that there is no rational reason involved. We just don't like that person. It's very hard to acknowledge that a feeling can be completely instinctual, that there is no rational motivation behind it whatsoever, and still regard the feeling as valid and not suppressing it. And so we lie to ourselves exactly when we try to be as honest as possible, when we rationalize things which cannot be rationalized, and that's the biggest lie possible.

I seek thruth, but also am mentally turned on by the fact that ultimate truth will never be known. I will do my best to understand the world around me, but the ever present question of "what is out there?" keeps life suspensful. In that sense, the search of truth may be one of the many, or the single meaning of life.

First I ask, are any of you truly seekers of truth

Err, Your truth?
My Truth? or the 'Truth" Truth?

Okay Enter, out with it. Give us the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.
