If I click on the "Tue 12:27 AM" part of my menu bar it says "Tuesday, January 20th, 1991." Oh wait, no it doesn't. It says "Tuesday, January 20th, 2009." Weird.

And the reality of this is that it's not even close.
I'd put it at 96% to 4%.

Same with Hendrix.
So I guess they are kind of the same.
People who truly draw influence from them care about the music first, the money second.
I think...
WRONG! hendrix was vain and full of shit. Great musician, ridiculous "messenger"
Hendrix was a calm dude and just wanted to be happy,
that's a message I can respect.
and Jewunit,
Hendrix won in the polls,
maybe you could accept my argument now?

Jewunit's question was specifically phrased, and the majority in this case is wrong.

Any threads mentioning hip hop always follow such a predictable format.
Some asshole always comes in claiming to be the authority on what "real music" is, posting usually for the sole purpose of telling the world that rap music is beneath him.
Enter argument on the definition of "real" hip hop. 50 Cent is mentioned. Continue to bring mainstream hip-hop into conversation against the artists they listen to that ate suitably big among musicians but not obscure enough that they might lose coolness points.
...
If you don't like hip-hop, you're writing off a whole genre. I don't like ska-punk but one day I might find a ska-punk tune I like. The best thing about music is the constant surprises it brings.
It really fucking annoys me when an interesting thread about rap music kicks off and then WITHOUT FAIL somebody comes in with the sole intention of putting everybody down.

That has nothing to do with the argument at hand,
I brought up fifty cent because he claims tupac and biggie are his "inspirations", which is kind of a joke imo.
Hendrix > Tupac/Biggie, both inspirationally and talent.

I'm just gonna go ahead and add my 2 cents whether people agree or not. Why is Jimi Hendrix being compared to Biggie or Tupac in the first place as far as who is more influential? These are two entirely different genres of music. Hendrix influenced a majority of guitar players that came after him, as did Clapton. Biggie and Pac influenced a majority of rappers that came after them. In both situations, regardless of what genre of music the listener personally likes, all three artists had a large influence. I personally would say that Hendrix had more because it extended to so many different artists who were from so many different backgrounds, from jazz to psychedelic rock to rap and hip hop. Biggie and Pac had a very large influence but it was confined to mostly rap and hip hop.
I read most of the thread but I'm just generalizing right now. It's impossible to argue between Hendrix and Biggie or Pac. Maybe one could argue between Public Enemy and Run Dmc or Hendrix and Clapton... Again, just my 2cents.
