DIY Mycobags * 1
    #9633303 - 01/18/09 05:45 PM (15 years, 2 months ago)

I did a search on the forums with little information to come up as well as the site. Not much out there for my info. I'm hoping maybe someone can tell me how to make my own mycobags or link me a tek. I was planning just to order spawn bags with filter patch: http://www.mycosupply.com/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi?preadd=action&key=SBFP01

Is it just as simple as find the ratios of your substrate, then fill, sterilize, and inoculate? Also, these come so that I can simply just inoculate externally via the bag, right?

Yeah, making your own bags is pretty easy. Prepare your substrate, load it up, you can seal before pressure cooking if you want to. i do, then pc, allow to cool and inoculate

one big thing with bags is that they need to inflate, so hang it once it's PC'd

edit: look up some of Blue Helix's threads. he has a lot of great info on bags

So, it comes with a preinjection site?

You can substitute tyvek for polyfill in the tek, and like 1 inch long pieces of 1.5 inch in diameter PVC for the syringe part.

This can allow you to reuse the bags you buy many times over.

There are other methods that allow you to reuse the bag as well.

before i got the impulse sealer and the presealable filter bags, thats how i did all my substrate bags.  the link in my sig was done like that. works great, and you can have them sealed before PCing, which is awesome. but impulse sealers are cheap and work great.  then you get and extra few inches of room in the bag which is nice for shaking/mixing the substrate.
