    #9633412 - 01/18/09 06:01 PM (15 years, 2 months ago)

The movie "Alice" will be based on the 90s videogame of the same name.  Obviously, from the pic, it won't follow the storyline of the first book in the series.

I remember playing the first part of that game as a kid, and it scared the hell out of me.  I don't know how it would stand up to newer games if I were to play it today, but the video game had as lasting of an effect on me as did the book and animated film.

Marilyn Manson is also making Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll.  It will be interesting to see which is darker.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was actually much closer to the book than the first movie.  Though the book was still more dark and twisted than either movie.

OMFG is that Johnny Depp in another Tim Burton movie?

This is going to suck people. Can't you see? It will be some phony-ass tripped out movie that's going to be okay at best.

Of course there will be a small sect of morons, primarily composed of 16 year olds who shop at Hot Topic who will say how awesome the movie is (especially to trip to) and will proceed to wear still shots from the film on their shirts and hoodies until Hot Topic moves on to suck the blood of some other unfortunate meme.

Yep, it was albsolutely crap.

I normally enjoy Burtons films but the Gene Wilder version is a lot more memorable in all aspects.

And neither was as good as the two books (chocolate factory and great glass elevator)

the game and Tim Burton Alice aren't the same,  Sarah Michelle Gellar is making a different Alice movie that follows the very demented game and Tim is redoing the classic tale both are due out in 2010.

I really don't like Tim Burton's over-hyped, lame, gothic styled movies.

Which is.. all of them.

I'm a bit skeptical about the Tim Burton Alice only because its for Disney. As awesome and trippy as Disney movies are, I am looking for a dark and twisted version of Alice that I dont think Disney can provide considering their target audience.

The Alice with Sarah Michelle Gellar is based on the video game which was a dark and twisted amazing game. My only concern is that this movie was dead in the water for quite some time until Tim Burton announced his movie. Which worries me that the movie will be rushed trying to beat the clock with Burtons version.

P.S - the best Alice is the Disney animated one synced to Pink Floyds The Wall. On mushrooms.

I think Tim Burton is great but all of his films become over-hyped. I don't really like how all his movies feel the same... What I mean by that is if walked in on a Tim Burton movie that you never even heard of, you could easily tell it's a Tim Burton movie. Hes has amazing ideas, I just think he is close minded as to how he executes his ideas onto the movie screen.

I totally agree I came across this movie a while back when they first announced it and thought the same thing, of course he is going to put johnny depp in it and his wife, and of course every kid from hot topic will be sporting a shirt and get in on it. He does have excellent ideas and is a great director its just that people sign him up to direct movies because they want them a certain way and thats why they hire him. They should have had david fincher do this one, it would have been way better

Huh. Lewis Carroll wasn't a very dark person. He was a pretty quiet mathematics teacher, and he liked telling children riddles and encouraging them to use logic.

Whatever though.

I'll probably pay to see it.  And I'll probably enjoy it.  I won't be overly critical - and I'll just take it like everything else:  at face value.

Stop looking for so much more, allow yourself to become a bleeting sheep for two hours a week and simply enjoy some garbage television (or movie).  I watch reality TV every now and then -- it feels nice to just turn off and be entertained.

Looking forward to it.

Have you tried "every Alice adaptation that isn't Disney's"? I'm sick of "dark and twisted" versions of the book, and now Tim Burton is going to treat us all to two hours of German Expressionism and gratuitous shots of hands.

It'd be nice if you'd do your homework instead of calling people pedophiles, especially imaginative and intelligent authors. Carroll (Charles Dodgson) was one of the original portrait photographers of the victorian era, and during that time, children were considered the ideal form of innocence and beauty. He took many photos of them in various poses - along with taking many photos of his friends and fellow professors, etc. He did have friendships with many of the children of his friends and colleagues, but there's no evidence he was involved sexually with them. On the contrary, Mr. Dodgson is now under some historical heat for possibly having been involved in many love affairs with married women (he was never married himself).

:nerd:

PS, yeah, Alice Liddell was about eleven years old. Dodgson and a good friend of his had taken the three Liddell girls out for a canoe ride (at the request of the mother of the girls, also named Alice), where they told the girls the story now known as "Alices Adventures in Wonderland" by making it up impromptu as they went along. Dodgson wrote and illustrated a copy of the story later for Alice and gave it to her for Christmas. The girls reportedly viewed him as something of an uncle.

yeah theres not alot of evidence of alot of things whats your point. the absence of evidence isnt the evidence of absence

in that era Poe married his 13-year old cousin  old men had little girls back then if you didnt know2

as for you talking about him and married women its been noted he wasnt into women his own age at all sexually

i'd just like to see if theyd say it was racist and is the message saying that all negroes take drugs but if they stole it themselves like jesys and santa and replaced it all with colours it'd be genius

i wonder if the easter bunny is still white and fluffy or dreaded now

actually an asian alice would be better to beat them from stealing it

I'm SO EXCITED FOR THIS MOVIE. IT'S GOING TO BE FANTASTIC. JUST LOOK AT THOSE PICTURES!!!

My fave movie: Alice in Wonderland 1999:

wish I could find the chesire cat scene but I can't. Whoopi Goldberg pulls it off so fantastically it's freaky.

Everyone should watch this while shrooming! I believed the director was on shrooms while directing this during the entire time I first watched it  What a great idea that was!

This movie is coming out next week on the 5th.

I plan on dosing 2-3 hits and seeing it in IMAX 3D a week or two after it releases. I'm guessing it's going to draw a shitload of annoying teeny boppers hence the wait to see it. I don't want to be tripping face and dealing with the annoying giggles and screams from 13 year old girls.

Anybody else?

You might have a point, probably depends on which IMAX you go to.
One of my buddies will be down here from SC for 5 days during this time and we're gonna eat a couple hits too and see this.
I never thought about the potential annoying people there on the first day of release. Sure hope it doesn't turn out to be that way.
The best seats in the real IMAX theatre at MOSI are the top back middle row seats. We saw Beowulf on a 2 hits and a bean - it was pretty badass.

When we go I'll let yall know if the crowd was no good.

Aiight. I just made that assumption based on the amount of comments and the nature of the comments the trailers received on youtube.com. It seems like a TON of people are going to see out on the release date and it seems to range between teeny boppers in love with Johnny Depp and Hot Topic, and Tim Burton fans.

"I am So Excited

"woot woot i love johnny depp "

"lol, u can so tell Johnny Depp is the Mad Hatter  With his Jack Sparrow talk. 'You are terribly late naughty!' XD Johnny Deep is da Best man! Fave actor of all time!"

I fear Tim Burton may have made this movie to focus less on the fact that this is an actual other dimension and make it into something stupid like a dream or something Narnia-related.

I say this because in one of the trailers I saw johnny depp as the mad hatter says
"we've got to make the world right again".

but that's just it. that world is not supposed to be "right". it's supposed to be complete chaos. that's the point.

if that's true, then awesome :awesome:

I thought it was just going to be a remake of the disney film. and judging by the trailers that's what it seems to be. but the looking glass wars was aaaawwwwweeeeeeee:awecid:

I'm still disappointed that the rabbit is going to be 3d-animated. I was hoping for sort of a David Lynch's "Rabbits"-style anthropomorphized rabbit with a human body/rabbits head sort of thing. that's spooky and the figure is full of mind-glitchery.

It seems to be a mix. I haven't really read through the Looking Glass Wars myself, but I know its supposed to mainly based from that. This movie will have a lot of the original characters from the first book and the Looking Glass Wars. I'm just worried they'll put too much focus on Johnny Depps character. They may just be doing that to draw in a large audience since he's the actor most of the general public will want to see.

We'll all see how it goes behind dilated eyes soon enough. :awecid:

any preconceived notion of Johnny Depp as an actor will be completely transparent.

Johny is pretty cool, but tween girls suck.

I would love to see this on acid, so jealous of you that can!

It should still be interesting. I always imagined the book a little happier than this and perhaps a bit more fucked up than the trailers.

Huh. Lewis Carroll wasn't a very dark person. He was a pretty quiet mathematics teacher, and he liked telling children riddles and encouraging them to use logic.

True. He did, however, like taking pictures of little girls naked.

It's based on the Looking Glass Wars.

I did not know this. No wonder the trailer is completely off the storyline of Carroll's books. I just looked it up and I'm definitely going to have to read this sometime. Thanks

Been looking forward to this for a loooooooooooooooooooooooong time...I cannot wait

Did he dream about dragons? Did he dream about deer? Did he whisper  he names of friends who were near?
What songs did they play, and how far away? Why did he whisper, why did she scream?
What does the sound of a screen door mean?
Who talks on the hill? Who goes to the cellar, can you feel the chill? Where does the river, when will the wind?
How far are the mountains? Where do they end? Why would the church?
Did the service begin? Tell me who died, and tell me who cried.
Help me hide in the skin of a deer, my zippered-up bag in the mouth of a stag so swiftly I go through rows of does,
it flows, it flows, it flows, it flows all over the hill where the green grass grows.

Seems like Burton fucking with a story that doesn't need to be fucked with.

Atleast not my him and Depp again.

All the trailers I've seen look like garbage and I'm a pretty film savvy person.
