this thursday will be one month into the colonization stage using the PF tek with Thailand Lipa-Yai strain.
Hawk sais its a fast colonizing strain, but from what i read around here, 1 month is too long.
im keeping them in a rubbermaid incubator (with fish tank heater) which i also plan to use as a fruiting chamber.

The tape over the holes in the top have been taken off, and jars have been flipped 5 days ago (i think) for air-gas exchange, but it didnt seem to help much.

the myc is still growing, but its going so sloooooooow.

is there anything else i can do to help these guys pick up the pace a little, or do i need to keep playing the waiting game until they are done?

1 month just seems like a long time to colonize such a small space.

What is the ambient temp in the incubating chamber ?

its fluxuating between 75(night) and 80 F(day).
its warmer in the house during the day and gets a little colder during the night.

once a day i open it and use a baster to take out all the loose water, and put it back into the glass container, then take a couple of paper towels, and clean up and wetness around the jars, place the top back on and forget about it until the next day.
ive been doing this for almost 2 weeks now. they used to sit inside a closet on a shelf, (first 2 weeks) but the outside temp began falling over the last couple of weeks, so i setup the incubator, so they wouldnt get too cold.

and thats all...ive just been patiently waiting.

i should also add that all the jars are between 75-90% colonized, which is a 5% change from 7 days ago.
i would think that it would move faster than 5% in 7 days.

Temp and RH are important but what it sounds like to me is that you are stunting their growth by not exchanging gasses often enough. Try fanning every four-six hours. If you are leaving them alone for 24 hours at a time, they are probably afraid that fruiting won't do good (eg, they are still deep in the cow shit).

Try to get your temp to stay around 82*F-84*F as stable as possible , that should speed things up a bit .

yeah, there still in the jars, so i cant see how fanning will do anything.

ill turn up the heater a bit more, and let them be for a couple more days to see how they react.

I couldn't tell from your post but is your heater in a jar with water, or is the submersable kind, meaning that your jars are in a bath of water? If it's in the jar type, you can substitute a styrofoam cooler for your rubbermade container. This will hold heat in better. Good Luck.

Right on, just put that, along with your jars in a styrofoam cooler, or if you have a bunch of extra regular plastic coolers, you can use those as well.

I thought I was high or something  :wink:, but fanning is useless :confused: if they are in jars . We just keep ours above the oven with no added humidity (other than what is in jars themselves ) keep temp at 84*F constant , in dark .......yadda yadda .
I think his temp flux is what is slowing growth .
But Skikid is correct .......................... fanning is not gonna help .
Loosening lids(or removing tape ) just a little and flipping over every so often is enough to get excessive C02 out of jars . Try resting jars on chop sticks ....this allows C02 a place to leave , where just resting on flat surface slows it down .
But as I said before TEMP needs to be as stable as possible and as close to 84*F as you can get it . Max growth occurs at 86*F

Trip, im only using the heater in water to raise the temp in the container. in my part of the universe, its fall, and the rest of the house isnt even close to incubation temp. the unwanted side-effect of course it the added humidity, and thats why im wiping it down daily with paper towels.

I take it for granted that I live where is easy to keep temp stable . Dont you have a central heating system in house , or a portable space heater you could put in room you incubate in ?
I think you will be fine , but if you want faster colonizing times , keep that temp in 80's .

after 24 hours at 85F there is a noticable difference in growth and the manner in which the myc is growing.
before the rhizomorphs were small is size, and didnt seem to be "reaching out" so to speak.
24 hours later, they are once again reaching out towards the bottom of the jar 1/8"
further than they were yesterday. lots of little "branches" from pictures and descriptions i have seen, this is considered good growth.

thanks for the input..it seems temperature is key, even while incubating.
