Enough for Permanent Heart Damage?
    #9623672 - 01/16/09 10:02 PM (15 years, 1 month ago)

I've been taking Ritalin two 5 mg pills a day, daily for no more than three months.  I stopped recently because I began having these chest pains, which I'm sure I'm worsening through being anxious of what this pain may be.  Is it possible that I may have caused myself permanent heart damage through the prescribed ritalin?

I think it would be very unusal. There are other more likely reasons for chest pain. One which happens to me sometimes, is when the stomach gets stuck underneath the diaphram. This causes pain on the left side of the chest. I think its quite common and usually fixes itself.

Probably worth seeing a doctor though if your getting chest pain. Just to be on the safe side. Espeacilly since this started to happen after your went on new medication.

Damn, they had me at about that dosage in kindergarten.  I don't remember much about ritalin, other than the fact it made me a manic little brat, I did much better with adderall, although I hear that really ain't good for the ticker either.

Highly doubtful. If anything you had a preexisting heard condition such as a heat murmur, which can be caused by a variety of conditions. I'd guess that Ritalin exacerbated a preexisting symptom/disease. You might want to look into getting an echocardiogram.

5mg of methylphenidate really isn't that much. I'd check to see if you have any preexisting heart or blood pressure issues.
