Hello everyone~

I know this question has been asked before..but please let me know what you think...

"If I purchase the new (widely available) BREATHABLE 36" closet how do you think my humidity will hold up with both my ultra and cool mist on the outside and what do you think about contams/mold spreading?

For those who want to keep reading**... I have used many marthas and greenhouses in my past grows, however, it is time for me to update and perhaps upgrade, since after frequent use the vinyl on my marthas tends to break or separate from the zipper which is a major pain. You may also know that perhaps every store has redesigned their seal able closets with a breathable cloth, this poses a problem for us considering that this was done so that clothes stored in humid areas can air and breathe. Me theory is that the humidity will hold up without a problem, my worry is mold and contamination spreading through from the moist outside to the fruitfull inside.

Some of you may say well...just buy a greenhouse, I am considering that but given the height of the greenhouse and it's proportions it may be harder to adjust since the greenhouse and most marthas and martha look-a likes are taller than 60", however they are easier to adjust to the height that I desire without too much warp-age or excess slack in the cover.

Thanks a lot guys, as always all your help is much appreciated

I.

Thanks!
You'll get there in your own sweet time, just remain dedicated and patient. Remember that your not only doing it for the end result but for the process, there is so much to learn in mushroom cultivation! I am working on getting some lab equipment right now so i can start taking a closer look at things

I'd say your doing it right, start slow and move up (if you'd like)

I don;t have many pics up, but I'll try to get some of my new setup.
If you ever have any questions, shoot me a pm or post, there is a lot of great people on this forum!

Peace

I just built a Martha. I used a Rubbermaid that have breathable fabric. I hope it holds up. I also purchased a humidifier that is a warm misting type. I thought that it might help on keeping the temp up in the FC. Don't know if you really need to update. If it is working out fine then keep on using.

I have to because like I said, depending on the wear and tear the vinyl tears, and there is only so much you can fix and only so many times you can repair before you have to call it quits and get a new one.

So here I am on the market for a new Martha and since many of the stores around here carry the ones with the breathable cloth I am just wondering how that will hold up with humidity and contams.

Thanks for all the input.

Have you thought about building your own with plastic sheeting and pvc or something along those lines?

Yeah..that's not out of the picture. I couldn't completely decide on if I wanted to do that since the closet is only 22$ for a 36x20x67. The 4 shelves would come out to be 40 plus the chain which would be another 16$. With the PVC it would roughly be the same plus some work, which could prove to be nicer. All the PVC connectors would cost me 24, the PVC piping would cost me 26, and then depending on whether I would still use shelves or not(Which I could easily eliminate) I could save 40$. And depending on what I would by for the vinyl (really thin stuff is 8$+) So that could be worth it depending on the vinyl and how the enclosure is closed.

hmmm...we are getting some gears moving....

Even a plastic sheeting covered frame is 'breathable' if you punch a gazillion holes in it shotgun style.  That ensures fresh air exchange, and humidifiers can easily keep up with humidity.

To the previous poster with the warm mist, get rid of that thing.  There's no greater generator of mold than steam against a wet surface.  Use cool mist humidifiers.

RR~

That's what I though, that the cool mist could easily handle it but would the breathable cloth become saturated at all to the point where it will become wet and harbor contaminants from the outside like a stale wet cloth?

Thanks,

I.

I'm going to get the breathable one, I figure it's mix of vinyl and cloth should allow for fresh air exchange but not enough to become saturated and harbor contaminants. I will let everyone ( who is interested) know how this turns out.

If anyone is wondering this is the two closets I'm talking about
