pressure cooker info
    #962090 - 10/15/02 03:04 AM (21 years, 5 months ago)

so, i've bought a pressure cooker. the problem is, it tells you this particular information:

5 litre capacity.
3 setting pressure control system.
Basket, separator and trivet.
Recipe/instruction booklet.
Suitable for electric, gas and solid hotplate hobs.
Manufacturer's 10 year guarantee.

but, how would i be able to tell which setting is 15 psi? With other pressure cookers, what is usually considered the highest setting? Oh i wish my old pressure cooker was here :frown:

On my All american 915 model, here are the pressue gague stats for 15 PSI:

250F
1.0 kg/cm2 (little 2 in the corner)

I hope this helps.

15psi is the highest pressure setting I've ever heard of. It should all be in the manual.

If it has weights. 1 = 5 pounds. 2 = 10 pounds. 3 = 15 pounds -- generaly.

If it is some setting gizmo. The highest setting should be 15 pounds.

A pic or name brand would help.

i have that exact cooker! the large weight in the middle has a core it in which raises when it is heating and under pressure. a coloured core will come out with 3 different rings of colour on it. i think the last ring is blue meaning you are at 15psi

BTW turn your hob ring onto full until you see the last line (blue i think), then turn the heat down (about 3/4 power) so only a little steam is coming out. if the indicator drops turn up the heat until the last line appears again. if it is on full power all the time it will still work but you will lose more water from the bottom of your pot and there is a danger it may run dry, also it is more noisy

it is small. i can get 4 1/2pint jars in it. i dont bother with jars any more though. i use autoclave bags now. i have them raised about 2 inches off the bottom on a rack. they are great since they use space efficiently. i can fill a bag with 1 kilo of rice and 1 litre of water no problem. i dont know how many jars that would fill its a lot more than 4

what do you use to raise the bag off the bottom of the pressure cooker? i've been using the foil pie plates, but there has to be an easier way. i haven't been able to find a metal rack to fit in it....hm....laterzzz

You can use one of those roast racks that looks like a UFO....it unfolds and fits perfectly in the bottom of my PC. Or you could use a old towell of some sort. I have used both and they seem to do just fine.

Shop any thift store, GoodWill, second hand store. You can find all sorts of wire racks that work great, for a dollar or 2.

A quality PC, like any All American. Is not dangerious, if operated per instructions.

On top of that, they have built in safety features that make it near impossible for them to "blow up" -- even if you intentionaly tried to blow it up.

They are much less dangerious than a car, & much simpler to operate.  :smirk:

You drive a car, don't you?

You mean while driving? Use a roach clip, then.

If you mean, when PC'ing.

Not if you use oven mitts, towels or what have you -- to protect your pinkies.

A wise old owl told the raccoon long ago. It is not prudent  to grab real hot things, bare handed.
