good only if you are flexible:
you need to exercise or stretch and walk around between 20-40 minute segments and you should incorporate awareness practice for eating, going to washroom walking etc. even driving and talking on the phone.
this is really about bringing practice into life, unlearning habits and making awareness more natural with habits you don't want to unlearn.
it is a great idea to make jokes between, or to find silly stuff, so you don't take yourself too seriously.

I think meditation is only useful to a point. I think rgv said it very well. Bring the meditation routine into your daily life. Try and be aware not just when you are sitting, but also when you are doing.

Meditation 24/7 is the key. Buddha got enlightened by keeping his attention on his breath 24/7.

Hello, daytripper
In my experience;
There is no limit.
I really do mean that there is no limit. I think sessions longer than 2 hours can be very good.
I recently spent some time in the hospital after I had what is called a "psychotic episode" (I was hearing voices and hallucinating) and I had a lot of time to just lie there and breathe.
For a few days while I was there.. about half-way through my time there - I meditated for about 8 or 9 hours a day.
I would literally not move an inch, I did get very stiff, but as I lay there and breathed I would gradually feel myself melt more and more into my body. It was a great body load. I felt like I was getting closer and closer to the present moment, closer to being fully at peace.
The mental aspects.. well anyone who meditates will know the kind of changes in awareness that can accompany meditation. But something happened when I meditated this long that did not usually happen. I would look at people and I could kind of see their energy moving around in their body - this was only for some people, their minds seemed chaotic - it looked like their heads were moving around searching for something desperately.. it's hard to explain I guess.. something subconscious. I could tell who was carrying anger around with them and who was at peace with themselves - I was so sensitive that when I was around angry people, I felt myself being physically repelled by these people - so if I was standing behind them, and there was a wall behind me, I would get pushed into the wall.
Then there were people who had this stillness about them as if they had just been meditating too (and maybe they had been, there was little else to do there), and when they talked to me I felt this overflowing joy, and I wondered if this is what talking to people is suppose to feel like, always refreshing and joyful.
Anyway, meditating for long periods of time can be really great, for you and the people around you.

Sounds like a trip, in a very awesome sort of way. Hopefully I can get to that point without the breakdown./.!

Meditating while driving works very well, actually.

i am a firm beliver that meditation should be done all day everyday
sitting is fun & i find an hour is a good amount of time or sometimes a whole day is nice to sit & stretch
but stilling the mind to be one with truth should be all day long imo
I think Ramana said that meitation should be be like an endless river flowing through your life, with no break in it at all
