A foaf of a cousin cased some cakes the other day using birdseed pf tek jars as the substrate. Colonization was 100 % complete and the foaf added 50/50 peat/verm as a casing layer a couple days ago. Cobweb has started showing up on all of the casings. The foaf then sprayed the cobweb with 3% peroxide straight out of the bottle. In order to see if the cobweb was deep the foaf then moved the top part of the casing with a sterilized knife and sprayed the casing there as well. The foaf knows air exchange can combined with peroxide can stop cobweb and would like to know if it is possible to put casing in FC right now despite the casing layer not being colonized. This should allow air exchange and pinning which shouldnt matter as long as the casing layer is there to provide moisture. Is this a good Idea or not? Foaf is a newb so go easy on him lol.

I hate 3rd person.
many people put their containers into fruiting directly after casing, its just a different technique.

foaf of a cousin? damn that sounds pretty far fetched... lol, jk. just funny.
anyways, how thick is the casing layer and how long has it been incubating? If cobweb is showing up on ALL your casings then i would suspect incomplete pasteurization, what was your method?

yeah if that sounds far fetched you should here the real relation....I dont wanna type that much though......
It may be incomplete pasturiztion he tried to sterlize but his pressure cooker screwed up and instead boiled the hell out of it for a while...He knows pasturization is suppose to be under boiling point but he figured since the casing could be sterlized or pasturized boiling the hell out of it couldnt hurt anything

True, but most agree a casing shouldent be sterilized. If it stayed like that too long that could be your problem right there, I myself just load my pot up with the jars of casing material, let it get to a boil and immediately shut it off, putting the lid on and let it sit with the stove off. Temps should stay above or right at 170 as long as your lids on tight and your pots packed full of jars with your water halfway to three quarters of the way up the sides.

Being you are new at this, are you sure it was cobweb and not mycelium? I have seen some pretty whispy mycelium coming through a casing layer.
