Ramsey Seal

My cat tried the Ramsey Seal last nite and I think he has a question. Hold on, let me get him....

Ok, so everything seems to be ok so far but I have some concerns. I noticed under the foil in about half of the jars, there is air. I guess the foil wasn't pushed all the way down cause I didnt want the substrate packed, or it settled a little bit during PCing. I'm worried about air between my protection barrier and substrate.

Also, is the substrate going to get enough air exchange with all that foil?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of the Ramsey Seal?

Also, on a couple jars, some water from condensation or something dripped on top of the jars, and I'm guessing some went into the innoculation holes onto the dry vermiculite layer. Is this ok and what it's there for? Or is there a possibility of it getting "funky"?

Thanks for the help!

Peace out.

the ramsey seal is a waste of time imho.
space between the substrate & foil doesnt matter.
the problem w/ the pftek vermiculite layer is that moisture entering through the holes in the lid can acumulate in the verm layer causing contam problems.
lack of good air exchange is another problem w/ pftek.
a better way is to use synthetic filter discs.

Ramsey seals are a BIG waste of time and effort. Your best off with just a full, dry vermiculite layer.

I agree with StS here. Just go with the standard dry verm layer.
