Lottery
    #9600545 - 01/13/09 10:09 AM (15 years, 18 days ago)

I bought a $20 lottery ticket yesterday, feeling a bit stupid and irresponsible but having fun nonetheless. I proceeded to my truck where I scratched it off and had no luck at all. It gave me this weird feeling but it wasn't like, oh damn I just lost 20 bucks, but rather "I really need to buy that next ticket."

Ok, so some might call that a gambling addiction. I call it intuition. The next one I bought I did the same thing. Back to my truck I went, scratched off the first number and immediately had $100. Stoked, right? Well then it happened 14 more times until I had won $1500 bucks.

What's the moral of this story? I don't know, but pictures of my new bong later.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.

I have considered that possibility.

Congratulations on your win, of course, but realize that the probability of repeating this feat within your lifetime has dropped drastically.

After winning on a scratch ticket, look out for those falling pianos.

This is not true.  Look up "gambler's fallacy" if you want to know why.

You're right.  You're chances of winning again are just as low as they were the first time.

Chances are the same yes. Probability of having two such winning streaks in a lifetime are lower though.

I've won a hundred here and there, 500 once. But this is definitely the one that makes me feel as though my luck has peaked for a while. I won't see anything that cool again for a long time. I turn 22 this month, so it was neat for my birthday you know? I got to buy myself a really nice bong I've been wanting for a long time, and a quarter of the dankest bud I could get my hands on. Rest is going to practical shit like rent and school tuition.

Yay for bills!

Nope, dropped the price drastically by getting a no namer. All glass on glass, beautifully designed, ice catcher, all the good stuff with no bullshit. I didn't want to spend over 100 living in a house with 5 other people. I'll be lucky if it doesn't end up broken.
