air exchanges per hour

You want 4 exchanges per hour according RR. My question which was never answered in a previous thread is: Assume your pumping in fresh air into a monotub. Now 50% of that fresh air{I'm guessing} is pumped right back out the exhaust hole. 50% made it in the tub and mixed with co2, so in theory it would take 2x the amount of time to get complete air exchange.  Soooooooo, if your still with me.  Do i calculate for air mixing???

so it would actually take 2x the amount of air flow to reach 4 exchanges per hour?


Also lastly. I know the limiting factor for growth is water. But what about Fae is there too much. what if it was 32x hour, is that too much???

There is no such thing as too much FAE. Mushrooms normally grow outside and you've got constant FAE there.

i was going to grow a inside grow with four mono tubs connected to a homemade humidier.  I'll have up to 8 air stone bubblers, also a 3 teir fogger all in a  rubbermaid tub. i'll place a fan on top blah blah blah.....

so i guess i'll just go any where from 4-8 exchanges per hour.  thanks for the help. g.k.

What I was trying to say is that there is no need to artificially limit the amount of fresh air (unless it lowers the temperature and/or RH too much, of course!).

no i got that. sorry. I'm going to keep the inlet fan as low as possible. I'm putting it in a small cold closet so i want minimum air exchanges per hour so my elect heater doesn't have to come on too much. what do you think the minimum fruiting temp is. I'll go check myself.

70-75 is your best bet.

I keep a fan on low in my 'shroom room 24/7.  And I mist occasionally or if the substrate looks dry.

So far so good.  Getting 2nd/3rd flushes on alot of my tubs.  Lost a couple to trich after round 1 though :-(

I wouldn't bother trying to do the engineering to calculate air exchange.  The figure of four exchanges per hour is minimum, but more is always better since massive fresh air is your best guard against molds.

If you're following the monotub tek, stick to it.  Place a fan nearby and let the natural circulation do its job.  Personally, I don't think you get enough exchange through the polyfill, although some strains do fine with it.  If you have a CO2 tolerant species and strain you'll do fine.  If not, remove the polyfill at full colonization and simply mist more to make up for lost moisture.
