Im gonna say the equador. Man if it goes well for you, and mine goes well for me, i will deffinetly be interested in a trade.
I don't really understand why a frosting layer would be more prone to contams, I would think that the fully colonized sub would be more contam resistant than just coir on top. But idk i hope mine goes well.
I hydrated my brick of coir with 1 gal of pretty hot water to pasturize, but im hoping i wasn't suppose to add more because im sure some evaporated, plus i added a quart of verm, so wouldnt it need more water? How did you prepare your coir? because it seems like you see good action in yours, mine look to be eating it a little, but the frosting layer is getting all puffy like its not eating any and just preparing to fruit.

mudkip, the idea is that wet grain is like a perfect environment for mold/fungus of any kind (not just mushrooms) so any spores that fall have a chance of hitting the grain and colonizing quicker than mushroom mycelium.

i did four bricks, one at a time, by putting the brick into a small rubbermaid tote that originally was going to be modified into a monotub, but i ended up leaving it like new. temp'd my h2o to 165 or so and dumped it in and immediately closed the lid. waited until i could hold the bottom of the tub without it being hot and took it into a sterile environment, and you know the rest.
as for the frosting layer, i would figure that it would help keep contams out. i'll get some pics up in the next few days so you can check the progress.

That's what I thought too, but I was wrong. Contams grew right on the f'ing grains.

That came off one of my frosting layers.

spongiform, that's the stuff nightmares are made of. i'm fairly confident in the successful harvest that's on the way.

the more you fuck with, touch, look at, breathe on and basically just fuck with them the more chance you have of contaminating your shit

i understand this, but the occasional looking through the side of my tub while not touching it or moving it in the incubation area is a choice and risk i am willing to take.

another update: things are going well, the 1:2 blue meanie and the 1:3 eq are flourishing. the rest of colonizing at a slower rate, but progressing nonetheless. i'll have some pics when i think colonization is at 100% to get second opinions.
