Yoga
    #9593910 - 01/12/09 09:18 AM (15 years, 3 months ago)

anyone here do yoga?

i just took my first class this morning. i'm taking it through my college.

the instructor is a really chill guy, with such a comforting voice. He said "...be here now" and i couldn't help but think of the shroomery and the book Be Here Now which I never would've heard about without this place.

I can tell I'm going to enjoy taking these classes.

What are your experiences with yoga?

how long is your class?

Man is timid and apologetic; he is no longer upright; he dares not say "I think," "I am," but quotes some saint or sage. He is ashamed before the blade of grass or the blowing rose.Man postpones or remembers; he does not live in the present, but with reverted eye laments the past, or, heedless of the riches that surround him, stands on tiptoe to foresee the future. He cannot be happy and strong until he too lives with nature in the present, above time

the classes are just to show you the moves

you gotta do it by yourself, really early in the morning, or when you are tripping and feeling nuts.

also, don't simply 'stretch'...  kind of 'tense' your muscle, sort of like you are flexing.  it took me a long time to figure that out.

yeah i plan on hopefully practicing it on my own outside of class.

i already get up really early in the morning and do sungazing (staring directly at the sun) during the sunrise.

Just wanted to say that it's been I guess just a week and a half now since i started the yoga class.
Yoga kicks ass. In two ways

It kicks my ass in that it's rather difficult and I'm definitely sore because of it. It's not at all like I thought it would be. It requires a great deal of strength.

It also kicks ass because it's really great. I've really been enjoying it. The breathing exercises really work and I've noticed I've been having much better posture throughout the day.

Just wanted to share cuz it was on my mind :mariopeace:

Cool. You'll probably find yourself becoming more relaxed and calm and a decent mood boost as well. Enjoy. And post pics of the yoga chicks. =]

yeah. Been thinking the same thing. Used to do qi gong too. That was nice. I'd lose track of time and get all warm and tingly. Cool visualizations in that one too.

I took yoga classes at my old companies' health center. But now I'm back to being a poor college student, and the rec center doesn't offer any sort of yoga classes. Unfortunately I'm one of those people that need a nudge to accomplish anything. No class=no yoga for me.

50 minutes is kinda short for a Yoga class :smirk:

i can't wait to start doing Yoga again!!! i hope i'll find the time and space to do it soon, where i used to go i'd do something like 4-7 classes a week (each one at least 90 minuts and different styles) and it REALLY makes a difference in your life, at the time i was carrying (and i still do i believe) some injury but it made me learn how to deal with it better and mentally to let go.

as you take more and more Yoga you will find more and more things, especially if you take a soft approach rather then an ambitious one!

Breath
learn to use your eyes in relation to balance and special awareness
learn to REALLY relax
learn to use the breath
get stronger
wake up
and much more
have fun, Yoga is GOOD stuff!
enjoy!

IME Yoga should not be practised without guidance of a teacher unless you've done enough classes to be able to take care of yourself and to have a certain base.
there's much more to Yoga then just stretching!!!

nah i actually sit up front and center haha.

in my defense, he does have a female assistant up front with him

seriously i didn't take the class just to see some ass. that'd be retarded. might as well just look at porn if that was my goal. i took the class to learn yoga.

ha well honestly i'd be hard pressed to become any more relaxed. it is still nice though.

and pics... eh... somehow I think bringing a camera into class and shooting pics of the girls wouldn't work out too well
