So far, my playoff pool is perfect and will continue to be so if the Cards win.
And I played ONE bracket.

Yeah I was the only one in my pool that picked the Cards to win. So that should make up for me losing on the Tennessee game.

A brewery/food spot. We have one here in Denver too. The wheat beer and the food is as good as it gets in my opinion. But the setting down there is sweet.

This ended up being a good game.
Although it will be a travesty if the Arizona Cardinals go to the Super Bowl.

One of the worst games for a kicker I've ever seen. But why weren't they going for two? Can somebody explain why you wouldn't try to make it a 3 point game.
What could the possible difference be between a 4 or a 5 point game? Especially this late.

I listened to the whole game on the radio and the most common word I heard Marv use when the Eagles had the ball, other than "the" and "a", was "dropped". Including the last pass. Does this seem accurate to the people who actually watched the game?

I don't think so. I missed part of the first quarter though. In the 2nd half DNabb was on it. Sipping passes, touch passes, bombs.
It looks like on the last play that the Cardinal CB tripped up the Eagles wide out and he "dropped" that pass, but it easily could have been PI.
Oh well, it makes up for the call at the end of the first half when the Cards should have gotten the ball on the kick off but it was non-reviewable.

Should have been pass interference, but I can see why the ref didn't call it. NO way you want to be responsible for that call.

The analysts after the game said the ball did not go out of bounds and implied that the guy in charge of the refs said the same.
The ref was correct in saying that the play could not be challenged.

Well the ball definitely didn't touch his fingertips before it hit the ground, but I couldn't tell (and I don't think anyone could tell well enough to overturn it) if it hit him when he was standing out of bounds. If that's the case though it would have been a penalty.

I don't know man, if you can watch it again from both angles. It looks like there's a possibility it hit him on the way back up when he was out of bounds. And again, if that were the case, it would be a penalty.
Nothing can be done about it, probably a near impossible call in real-time with only one look, and it couldn't be reviewed. Well, the possession couldn't. I don't know if the Eagles could have challenged whether it should have been a penalty or not.

Well, the ruling on the field was that the ball was out of bounds because it hit the guy who was out of bounds, so it should have been a penalty and the Eagles should have had the ball at the 40

That would work out. We had the TV on mute, and didn't turn it on until we realized something was goofy.
The calls that all of these guys make in every major league, are for the most part, amazing. What they do under real time conditions with so much on the line. Okay, maybe not the guys in the NBA, but....
Both games were exciting, and I'm looking forward to the SB. I bet my friends in Arizona are happy tomorrow is MLK day because knowing them, I'm sure they are TORN up right now. They've been die hards for a while now, and I'm happy for them.

No, I think the ruling was it hit the guy THEN went out of bounds. Which means they get the ball where it went out. And it's understandable to think it hit the guys finger tips, only on the review did I think "Well, it didn't hit his finger tips OR go out, but it may have hit him on the way back."

But it didn't go out correct? It seemed really obvious to us (maybe it wasn't) that it hit the outside of the hash mark. If it did hit the guys fingers and stayed in, the ball is fair game right?

Well, when it hit the ground it didn't hit out of bounds. We watched, rewound, and watched in slow motion a few times, and I wasn't sure if it hit the Eagles player while HE was out of bounds on the way back up after hitting the ground.
However it's all moot since the Cardinals were the ones who wanted to challenge for possession reasons, and they couldn't because once a play is blown dead you can't change possession.
I'm not sure on the rules of challenging penalties, so I don't know if the Eagles could have challenged trying to say they should get the ball at farther down the field or not, nor do I think the evidence is conclusive enough to overturn the original ruling. That is to say obviously what I understand to be the original ruling is wrong, which is the ball hit the Eagles player then went out. However I can't tell for SURE, and I'm not sure how anyone could from the two angles we were given, that the ball did or did not hit that same player when he was out on the rebound. I think it did, but I wouldn't be confident enough to overturn the call as a referee.
So in short, it's really all irrelevant, because it wasn't a play the Cards could challenge and it is most likely a challenge the Eagles wouldn't have won if they are allowed to challenge that. I feel like I've seen penalties challenged before (rarely), but at the same time I feel like I see plays all the time that are questionable pass interference calls that never go challenged.

It's funny because to me it raised the ultimate problem with challenging calls. This also happened in the Steelers' game. Both games had a play that either side could have challenged a ruling (sort of), but yielded a completely different result.
In the Card's game one of the two most often questioned calls came up for the Card's, which is whether or not a play was a fumble. However the fumble problem arises when the play gets blown dead, which happened, and even if the officials were wrong there's nothing you can do. Nor do I see a solution to this problem. Even beyond that it's not a problem, since the human error of officiating is part of the game to some. But on the same play the Eagles potentially should have gotten the ball at a more advantageous position, but are penalties able to be challenge? Probably depends on the penalty and when I'm a little more sober tomorrow I'm gonna look that shit up.
In the Steelers' game there was the Santonio "catch" that the Steelers' could have challenged saying it was a TD, but the Ravens challenged saying it wasn't a catch. I would have liked to see either the Ravens challenge and it be a TD (which didn't happen), or the Steelers' challenge and say it was a TD. The latter was more possible to be a great situation because the refs would have (or at least should have) came to the same conclusion, which was an incomplete pass.
I guess neither of these are really problems with reviews (although I wish there were a way to resolve the fumble/blown dead issue because that would be the biggest) but more of scenarios in challenges that I always hope happen, and they kind of did tonight.

What I don't get, is why there is any such thing as a play that cannot be challenged. Aren't we looking for a chance to have the fairest outcome possible?
I dig that human error is a part of the game, but it sure sucks when a play that is obviously wrong can't even get looked at.
Am I missing something?

Well, to keep with the Eagles/Cards example. Say they reviewed it, and decided that the ball never was out of play, but since someone blew a whistle, it's really not fair to say the Cards should get possession. The Eagles heard the whistle and stopped trying for the ball. This makes even more sense with the rampant bullshit of defensive players picking up balls left and right when the play is dead and running around with them (I wish they would make that a delay of game.)
I'm not sure that's the greatest example though, because if you watch the game I don't think any ref blew the play dead until after the Cards recovered. Of course the announcers were too short sited to touch on that because regardless it wouldn't be reviewable, so we didn't get any second looks at the play in conjunction with audio and views of the refs to see if they called it dead. A better example is what happened to Denver against SD way earlier in the year. I didn't see it happen, but if I understand correctly it was obviously a fumble, and Denver obviously would have recovered. Since the play was blown dead, however, it didn't matter because that doesn't give whoever didn't recover the ball a fair chance, potentially.
That just raises more questions though. Should a fumble be able to be reviewed if upon the review they see no one blew the play dead until the whistle was blown (Edit: Play dead until the whistle is blown. I meant to say "...no one blew the play dead until the fumble was recovered.)? But then what if the play isn't reviewable because a whistle was blown? Does the challenging team lose a timeout because they sent the play to the booth, or is there no punishment because technically the play wasn't reviewable?
There's probably always going to be problems with reviews. That's fine. And while I think reviews in all sports are good, there should be some things that you just can't change. Otherwise watching sports will suck. More so in sports like basketball or soccer that are consistently moving. I don't want play to stop every time a ball may have gone out of bounds just to get the exact right call. I'm no math major but in the end it should work out that you get a pretty even amount of calls against you as you do for you anyway.

Ah yes, I knew there had to be some common sense reason for not allowing reviews for plays blown dead.
It's weird as I don't watch any sport besides baseball for years, and there's been a few changes. I feel like my grandparents sometimes when they'd ask me to program the VCR
Thanks for the heads up.
