I did once, and he smoked it, got really high, and doesn't want to do it again. It's not about making everyone smoke it, it's about making it legal to those who want to.

It's certainly a great situation when we've gone from absolute illegalization to legal for medical patients in 13 states, practically legal in at least 3 states (they won't even take your weed in Mass, Cali, and Denver in most cases), growing is legal for medical distributors in plenty of states, and individual towns have passed initiatives making marijuana the lowest on the enforcement list. None of these are full legalization, but they are all steps that carry a greater connotation than the actual text of the law. The connotation is, "We don't really think this is as big of a problem as you believe it to be. Right now, the general public doesn't want it legal, but we don't want it to be any worse than a speeding ticket."
This is a general public of which only 31% of people have smoked weed. However, nearly 2/3 of college students admit to having tried weed. Imagine then what kind of citizens ballot initiatives will pass when we are in power.
So what happened to all those hippies from the 60's.. they helped start all this, but now that there older why hasn't weed become legal yet.
I think the best way to get it legal is to over flood communities with the stuff. Its what gives cops that "let him go its just pot" mentality... eventually law enforcement will get completely tired of it. with that and the growing exceptance by citizens, it'll be legal.

Everything that happened in the 60's was reversed with the drug war, with John Walters, our wonderful(not) 'drug czar' (wtf does that even mean??)
All the stupid shit that they show on tv, all the anti-drug campaigns... THAT is what happened to the 60's.

except they take your weed in Mass from what I've been reading, many cops seems to believe regardless of the status of the drug they'll arrest you and let the court system deal with it
in denver it doesnt seem to matter what the voters said either

but the cops have proven time and again, the actual law doesnt matter, it's what they want to enforce that does so even if there were full legalization by the states, we'll see more prosecution under federal law, if under federal law and state laws it's legal, we'll see city and county ordinances popping up, and if everything says it's legal from the feds to the city, it seems the consensus is still arrest the user and let the courts deal with it
it even would seem that denver has had an increase in marijuana arrests since it was 'legalized'

understand that decriminalization doesnt mean it's legal, it means it's just a reduced infraction of laws, like a traffic ticket, they still fine you, they still take your weed you just dont serve time for simple possession of small quantities
QFT, BUT... Think about what government-controlled, legalized weed could do for the economy!
Dude, this 1.2 trillion dollar deficit we're about to be in could be wiped out in a year or so if MJ was as legal and taxed as alcohol and tobacco.

Its just like speeding... if speeding were like marijuana laws, where speeding could result in a felony, strip your right to vote, and stuff like that... and then decriminalized, you'd expect more people to speed and more arrests to be made... but the results of those arrests are nothing more than a headache.
Things are moving in the right direction.
They should force speeders to drive high... No more speeding!

supernovasky said: By the way, Pris, sure... your weed is confiscated sometimes in Massachusetts, but man... the more I read out of that state, the more awesome it seems that law is. Seriously. Public smoking there is now pretty much on par with or less than public drinking. In fact, you get in more trouble smoking a cigarette than you do smoking a joint in public, it seems. That's awesome, and thats how it should be.
I live in Mass and I've recently seen people smoking joints along-side cigarette smokers outside clubs and bars... Cops just smile when they smell it and walk right by! AWESOME!!

probably because a lot of those that were the older generation n the 60's and 70's arent around any more while those from the younger generation of that era are around today, many of those kds did use drugs, I'm sure you'll find that more than half the people in the US have smoked and that more than half the people in the US do support legalization but what percentage of those people are felons because of the drug laws and ineligible to vote
with us, you're preaching to the choir, it takes you and your friends to do something, your friends have to get up and talk to their representatives too
