everyday i see a new article on states bending the law for weed.

TWO MUSHROOMS ARE GROWING NEXT TO EACHOTHER. ONE TURNS TO THE OTHER AND SAYS, "its a beautiful day were havin', eh?". THE OTHER MUSHROOM TURNS TO HIM AND SCREAMS, "oh my god!!! a talking mushroom!!!".

Yes. It's happening.
The revolution will not happen as a result of a giant march on washington, a horrible abuse of our rights, or anything like that. The legalization revolution will happen like a cool, gentle breeze, carried on the backs of the majority of Americans who will have smoked weed by the time our generation is in power. Nearly 2/3 of all college students have smoked weed. Our day is coming.

Anyone who thinks its not happening, go to Denver, go to Massachusetts, go to Cali, go to music festivals...
Its pretty clear which way the trend is going.

Why do I have a feeling it's gonna be really really really close to legalization and than something somewhere's gonna happen and than it's back to felony for small time possession.

People are slowly excepting weed as a mainstream recreation like beer. its time for the laws to catch up with the people.
I live in California and I'm loving it. non-medical pot is still illegal here but unless your holding more than an ounce. your safe. Iv been caught with weed more than once and never charged with possession. there's just to many pot smokers in my city for cops to do anything about it.

Prisoner, its more than just cops not wasting their time, its citizens ballot initiatives that are the primary legalization force right now. If the lax laws can pass today in places where only 30-40% of the population has smoked, imagine in ten years whener it finally reaches the majority of the voting population has smoked weed. Legalization, in my eyes, is inevitible. The best way to get it to happen, in my mind, is to convince non-smokers to give marijuana a try. Grassroots movement is the only way to get our voices heard now and days. This, combined with a law enforcement atitudes on the war on drugs declining, and a slumping economy reducing the capacity to fight the war on drugs, and an overcrowded prison system, makes eventual legalization a near certainty.

The way our government is set up WILL cause weed to (eventually) be legal, just like alcohol and tobacco..
although the federal government is the big brother, and the ultimate gov't in charge, what people seem to forget is that the states run their own show. 50 different states= 50 different ways to make policy. As the person above me said, it seems like each state is becoming more understanding with weed.
One example is michigan, where it's decriminalized. They can't even give you a ticket for smoking (as long as it's less than an ounce).
Another is new mexico creating the licensed pot dispensaries.
It's only a matter of time before more states see the light, and once that happens, the federal gov't won't have any other option but to legalize.

understand that decriminalization doesnt mean it's legal, it
means it's just a reduced infraction of laws, like a traffic
ticket, they still fine you, they still take your weed you just
dont serve time for simple possession of small quantities

Oh, I know Pris, Marijuana is not legal anywhere here in the US right now. However, that isn't my point... my point is the trend. It's certainly a great situation when we've gone from absolute illegalization to legal for medical patients in 13 states, practically legal in at least 3 states (they won't even take your weed in Mass, Cali, and Denver in most cases), growing is legal for medical distributors in plenty of states, and individual towns have passed initiatives making marijuana the lowest on the enforcement list. None of these are full legalization, but they are all steps that carry a greater connotation than the actual text of the law. The connotation is, "We don't really think this is as big of a problem as you believe it to be. Right now, the general public doesn't want it legal, but we don't want it to be any worse than a speeding ticket."
This is a general public of which only 31% of people have smoked weed. However, nearly 2/3 of college students admit to having tried weed. Imagine then what kind of citizens ballot initiatives will pass when we are in power.

And I'll say this agian, fellow warriors on drugs: Convince a straight-edge friend of yours to try marijuana out! You'd be surprised at how many people are willing, and this is probably the most important thing you can do to legalize marijuana.

I'd say at least 25% of the kids in my class have smoked, and do smoke, and like it.
Unfortunately, everyone else will do whatever it takes to say that weed is horrible and bad and stupid and bla bla bla..and I ask them why they think this..I ask them what they know about weed..and their response is always the same- nothing.
