Read "Hannibal", the book is very different than the movie. It leaves room for an interesting sequel.

1986's Manhunter was almost better than Red Dragon. Sans the cool tattoos and the cast of course. If you liked Red Dragon, def. check out the original version of it!

Was Hannibal written by the same cat who wrote Red Dragon and if so, did this cat also write a book on the Silence of the Lambs, and if so do all three books predate the movies?

Yes, Thomas Harris wrote all three. Red Dragon was the first in the trilogy, followed by Silence of The Lambs and then Hannibal.

Just the movies.
Well, Red Dragon was originally made into a movie before Silence of the Lambs. It was called Manhunter.
I don't know if the same studio made it and I don't think it was ever released in theaters.
anthony hopkins did not play lector in it though. that's for certain

I watched Manhunter yesterday, it was so boring and lame.
I've read Red Dragon but haven't seen the movie yet.

Read the book years ago... Can't say I enjoyed the film as much. But still, yeah. Hannibal is nearly as cool as Ninjas.
