Are My MonoTubs Ready To Case? Please Tell Me They Are.
    #9573190 - 01/08/09 07:47 PM (15 years, 1 month ago)

Hi everybody, I have 2 MonoTubs that I started on 12/26. I used Milo grain and spawned to coir. I frosted the top of the coir substrate with a little grain(I know that's not a good idea now). The tubs have been covered loosely with a trash bag since I started them.

Tub #1

Tub #2

There is some growth on the sides of the tubs in some places(strangely, it likes to grow on the duct tape?). There are small droplets of water on the surface of the colonizing substrate. Will these droplets go away when the substrate is fully colonized, or is it ready to case. I hope the answer is yes.

Thanks For All The Help. :stoned:

they are totally ready so long as the entire surface is colonized....cant tell from those pics.  The droplets will get absorbed by the casing just make sure that you dont have lots of yellow liquid on the sub.  that's not good.  Case 'em

Looks really good.  I like the labeling job.  Remember casing is optional with cubes, go for it if you want the experience though.

Thanks a lot. What's the real benefit of casing MonoTubs? Is it worth the effort? Will it effect yield or size?

Thanks. :stoned:

That's a dangerous question to answer since I'm sure anyone will want to dispute.  I would have to say off my experience and what I've read it won't effect yield.  Now, take this with a grain of salt because I normally don't case my tubs.  For me its an added risk of contamination that I don't want.

RR advised me that casing does not benefit cubensis strains. simply place your fully colonized tray into your fc and cover with a crumpled up peice of wax paper. remomove this wax paper everytime you mist or fan, And replace it with a new peice every 2-3 days. The wax paper will keep the moisture content on the surface of your mycelium and help to induce pinning. Still you may want to try casing just to see your results??? Good luck either way.
