Thats a tree disease that usually grows on plum trees,It can spread easy,Ive seen it alot in the past 20 years.It does grow on a bunch of different kinds of trees.

I'd try a fungicide, one of the ones made from phosphoric acid compounds.

whoa i thought the first picture was a dead caterpillar  haha

nice i learn something knew .

and that wood pecker , most love the companion of those Fomes fomentarius but wait they also have some sor or spatularia or small jelly fungus on top or is a lichen , or maybe sort of moss.
wonderfull the asociation of animal and mushrooms , is always there .

I kinda thought there was something like that going on there.  I guess the fungi's mycelium probably deteriorates the wood so it's easier for the woodpecker to dig the hole?  And then, maybe the woodpecker spreads mycelium too.  Very cool.

yeah wasp ,bettle , wood pecker all that drill and work with wood carry spores , bettle and wasp also have special are specialised to carry the micelium , all animal have figure out  how to  cooperate and mushrooms take all sides animal and plant sides... by the way  i guess we are in the animal side ..wait¡ i should beging carring my micelium ¡ what iam tokking about , iam puking spores right now. :smile:

I briefly learned about them in my Mycology class.  They're a loculoascomycete.  I have no idea how I'd key them out from scratch.:)
