Cannabis, by Martin Booth. If you smoke (or even if you don't) it's very informative and bulging with historic facts about cannabis and hemp.

If you are into the hippy culture/60's/acid/Ken Kesey try the 'Electric Kool Aid Acid Test' by Tom Wolfe, might not be your kind of thing but I learned a lot from it, changed the way I thought about drugs and substances.

This might be a bit too far away from your kinda thing but try some Hunter S. Thompson. Fear & Loathing On the Campaign Trail '72 is a good one that got me into politics (I could'nt stand them).

Sorry if none of these float your boat, but I consider them among the best books I have read.

Chief.

Ken Wilber "A Brief History Of Everything"

It is pretty much as described, a brief history of everything as well as predictions for future.  Gives a good treatment of science vs. spirituality, as well as evolving consciousness.

are you experienced

Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
Rum Diaries by Hunter S. Thompson
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey

I read "Catfish and Mandala" in Viet Nam and found it fantastic. The writter was bicycling in the same places I was traveling and it was very funny.

The Sacred Willow is a wonderful history of Vietnam, in novel form. It is extremely well researched, I was both engrossed and educated.

"The Girl in the Picture" is very sad, but good war history.

"Vietnam in the Absence of War" by Thomas Rampton is a good account of two bicycling trips through Vietnam. It is not about the war, but biking down Highway 1.

"Laos" by Judy Rantala is a wonderful account by the wife of an American industrial arts teacher in Laos--prior to the communist take over.

'Mai Pen Rai" is the story of a State Department wife living in Bangkok, I belive in the early 1970's--very entertaining.

I am sorry that I don't have the names of most of the writters because I pass most books on after I read them, but I think I bought all of them at Amazon.

As for "Off the Rails in Phnom Penh," that one I bought in the Bangkok Airport and as a female reader I found it absolutely sickeningly repulsive and sad, I have no idea if the ending redeems the rest of the book because even though I tried several times I could never get more than half way through th

I highly recommend The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene. He melds a lot of elements from Sun Tzu, Machiavelli, and many other powerful characters in history into a comprehensive guide of various forms of power that people use. Each chapter starts with

I'm only up to chapter seven, but this book is gloriously helpful to me. I see the tactics various people in my life use, sometimes for malicious sort of reasons and it helps me prevent such things. For some people these "laws of power" are obvious, but for me a lot of them have been a real eye opener.

One of the best things about the book is Robert Greene's history lessons, even though sometimes it seems he puts his own little spin on a few of the stories.

I highly recommend it, the ebook is online if you want to check it out before buying it.

A former college football player, banished from organized football after a carnal episode with his coach's wife, is hiking through the wet wilderness of Olympic National Park. He comes upon a murdered Catholic monk with a letter of introduction. Stealing the monk's clothes and assuming his identity, he continues on the path until he arrives at what was to be the monk's destination: a completely unknown monastary that serves as a training ground for the Vatican hit squad. Passing himself off as the murdered monk, he soon finds himself transferred to duty at the Vatican where, after some time, he is able to use the confusion created by a rather severe earthquake to sneak his way into the lowest, off-limits section of the Vatican catacombs. Who's body he finds, and what happens after that? Read the book.

http://www.amazon.com/Teachings-Don-Juan-Yaqui-Knowledge/dp/0520256387/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1231451665&sr=1-2

The Don Juan series. Possibly the most controversial book related to psychedelics EVER. The author swore his experiences were real, but theres some strong evidence against it. Either way the knowledge and enjoyment in these books are real.

Basically an Anthropologist goes to Mexico to study Peyote, and seeks out a shaman. THe shaman takes him under his wing as his apprentice. He travels to other worlds using Datura, Peyote, and Magic Mushroom. Its a great read check up the first book listed above. I consider it a Fiction Novel and very interesting.

Anything by R.A.Wilson.

The other books I read are on magic.  I mean magic tricks like mentalism etc I love that stuff.  13 steps to mentalism by corinda is what I'm reading at the mo, its an oldie but theres many a little known secret still being used by magicians today.

Probably everything by Dostoevsky.

Nietzsche's The Gay Science is awesome perhaps my favorite philosophy book...

Sartre's Nausea was good

There is so much out there to read. If you like war history books like Band of Brothers is great.
