Plato's allegory of the cave....

I'm sure someone has thought of this before, but I've not seen it, and would like a little discussion on it.
Plato's argument was that we are prisoners in a cave, watching shadows on the wall illuminated by the fire behind us. We're not aware that what we see is a shadow, but rather we believe it to be the real deal. Now of course this has been parroted across cultures and times, and I plan to do the same with more modern analogies.
For example, let us consider a movie theater. As we take our seats and get comfortable, a movie starts. Motion fills the screen as we shovel in some popcorn, ready to have our senses delighted. A good movie will suck you in, nearly make you believe it's real. We certainly all know that the actors are real and tangible, and relating to them is entirely possible. But what is the reality? We're looking at a screen to which various frequencies of electromagnetic waves are being carefully orchestrated and synchronized onto for a specific effect.
Does this make the actors and actresses any less real? Is the world outside of the movie theater any different? Are we not all energy in some form or another, being carefully orchestrated and synchronized with a specific goal in mind? Certainly there is no way to prove there is a goal, but physics certainly paints an interesting picture of what we are in terms of energy.
Please discuss, add, criticize

I think it's really interesting, what you said, about the little particles of light/energy on the screen..they do so much for us, can change our thoughts & feelings..at the same time, a great deal of that also comes from sound..because what would the movie be without sound? Isn't sound a form of energy? So much thinking! nice post

I can relate Plato's story, and your metaphor with some of my mushroom experiences.
I have noticed, that while under the influence of psilocybin, i visualize energy as particle and wave; with what i have compared to findings in quantum physics. Except that while intoxicated i visually perceive these phenomena.
In my mind, this ties together both Plato's ancient allegory, and your more modern metaphor...
I suppose the final conclusion is the metaphysical questioning of reality.
What is seen is real, but is it the truth. Are the shadows mere representations?
It is all perspective.

I like to think of watching a film as if it is 'delayed' reality (also compressed to a 2 dimensional field, with one distance of focus). In real life what we experience is always a delayed reality (though also with a few more dimensions), but it is far less delayed than the movie film.
Every experience we have in the outside world of people interacting is a real situation as far as our inner reality is concerned, but reality has the added advantage of allowing us to interact with it in real time
