So i used the spawn calcuator. I plan on using a tub that is 25.5 inches lon, 15 high at a depth of 5 inches. the calcuator said i needed 17.3 qts of spawn. i cant find anything that can tell me how many pounds that is, google said that it wouldnt convert. do any of you have a idea, of how many pounds of wbs that will be?

Fill a quart 2/3 with dry WBS. Weigh the WBS. Multiply that by 18 (17.3)

Thats 26 quart jars of spawn filled 2/3 of the way up. or 52 pint jars filled 2/3 of the way up. Don't use a 1:1 spawn ration. go with 1:2 or 1:3. You get more mush for those hard hours you spent pressure cooking.

im assuming that its about a 60 quart tub, by the dimensions given, so if so, i normally go with 3 or four full quarts spawn

You don't calculate your spawn ratio by weight, it's by volume. Stick to quarts, not pounds. 17 quarts is a shit ton of spawn. Are you spawning to 85 quarts of substrate?

He was trying to calc 1:1, now he's using 1:3...
Take a pint jar, fill 2/3 with wbs. Weigh it, now double that. That is how much 1qt weighs of your wbs. Now multiply that by 8. This is how many lbs of wbs to buy.
And for the record, I say 2/3 because you're gonna be adding water and wbs WILL expand to the rest of the 1/3 empty jar. So you measure by dry weight. I know 2.5 lbs of rye berry is good to do about a dozen pint jars.

I only read and responded to the first post, but that formula should come in handy for someone I just eyeball everything.
