Uber ghetto air filter

So say I live in an older ghetto apartment with a higher than usual mold spore count.  I own a psuedo-HEPA air filter than does a pretty damn good job of keeping the air clean.  But what if I want the air to be cleaner without spending alot of money?

Would it help at all to tape a HEPA grade furnace air filter to the front of a box fan?  Just an idea.  Thoughts?

Really? 0 replies?  Is this possibly one of the most retarded ideas in the history of the shroomery? Am I fundamentally retarded when it comes to air filtration that this idea could only come from someone with down syndrome?

It would not really help IMHO, if you're gonna spend upwards of $50 on a HEPA, you might as well build a box for it and make a flow hood.

You can run one of those hardware store hepa filters in your house to help with the sporeload, but they don't really help all that much.  Sterile procedure is what you want when inoculating, so use a glovebox.  Once full colonization is reached, your ambient contaminant load isn't going to hurt you much.  My old condo in Seattle was completely infested with black mold, which made us sick a lot, but didn't hurt the mushrooms.

Just really up your sterile technique game for inoculations with syringes.  When I do grain to grain I am usually pretty lax about it.  Another good technique is using terminal spawn.  Basically out of a multispore syringe use only 1-2 fast and healthy growing jars for grain to grain.  Use the leftovers for a "terminal" bulk grow.
