Liquid Culture Jars ???

Ok I am just checking here, but i have been looking at the LC jars from mycopath.com. Do these just get injected and incubated just the same as the brf jars ??? I thought you needed to magnetically stir them. Also, will this work to make LC syringes to inoculate grain jars ???

This is what I did out of Agar's posts. The rubber ring makes it suitable for LC's. Don't know if your looking to make or buy, but this was easy and all the suppliers are readable if you click the pics. GL.

Using a stirbar of some sort will speed it up a little and help keep the mycelium broke up so it's easier to suck up in a syringe.
For mine, I just give them a swirl once in awhile but otherwise I leave them on a shelf at 70-75f alone.
Once they're ready you just suck up some of the mycelium into a syringe and use it to inoculate other stuff.

You do not need a stir bar. Simply inject your spores into the jar you bought from mycopath and away it will grow.

I built a stir plate and it does speed it up a little, but what I found is that it keeps the growth broken up and more parts would grow, the speed part, but it was convenient to suck up and spread. Not needed just convenient.

I have to suck up some water/air and blow it back into the mass of mycelium to break it up. I just go ahead and do it a few times before I try to suck anything up to use. Adds about a minute to my inoculation times. No big deal really.

Dude that's kind of a rip off they're charging 11 bucks for a Jar that has corn syrup and water in it (and only 4% of it is corn syrup). You could do all of that and more for less than 10 bucks and make way more LC's. If you're going to sensually blow 11 bucks you might as well get the jars with the malt extract as I've heard it works way better.
Also a self healing port can be easily made with a 4 dollar tub of a epoxy they sell nearly everywhere.
On a side note I wouldn't trust a jar that wasn't pressure cooked same day with in a couple of hours. LC tend to contaminate real easy. Of my last batch of six only 1 jar made it. I also have a real liberal use of gloves, needles, and syringes (I get them all free). So they were all clean.

It's really not a bad deal for someone who just wants 1 jar of the stuff.
Remember - these businesses have to federal/state and maybe even county/local taxes. They gotta pay for business licenses, federal employer licenses, and all sorts of associated fees/taxes (like workmen's comp).
Also they have to pay for your website, a merchant account to accept credit cards. They're also paying for advertising space on google or similar and don't forget that they're paying a minimum of $200 /month to be a shoomery sponsor.
So they're probably paying about $2 in materials/cost to make these then the rest is markup for profit/taxes/fees - they gotta turn a profit :-D
All things considered, $10 is not a bad deal.

Is it really 200 a month to be a sponsor? Where did you get that information?

The shroomery store says 200/mo to be a sponsor.
And yes, $1+ for the jar, $3-4 for the corn syrup, $3 for the distilled water, and the time to weigh, prep and sterilize (probably autoclave and UV).
Also, you know it's likely not to be contam'd. Probably worth the $11 to people starting out.

Yeah that's why I mentioned that. The site doesn't list percentages. I just assumed they used that much.

A whole bottle of karo syrup runs like $2 and you need like 1 or 2 tablespoons to reach 4% in a pint jar.
That being said they probably end up making like $2-3 profit off it.
When I did my first batch of Lme/Dex LC's I was concerned about the sediment, so I inoculate 1 and left 3 to sit around as control jars. After about a month the control jars were still good.
As long as it was properly sterilized and the filters are made correctly it should be good for a long, long time.

Inject 2cc's of spore solution and incubate at room temp (75F). You do not need to "magnetically" stir them. You can stir them a couple times a day by hand by swirling the solution around in the bottle. Be careful not to get the filter wet, it can draw in contamination if wet. Yes, it will work to make LC syringes to inoculate grain jars.

2cc's is a bit much really. I wouldn't use more then 1/2cc. Last one I made I used 3 drops.

I agree. In all of the jars I used 1 to 2 ccs became contaminated (I've never had contams before this). It makes sense. Spores are dirty and the more dirty spores you have in your jars the more contams you may get. The one I used a 1/2 cc came out perfect. Even a couple of drops from a viable syringe will have thousands of spores in it.
When I first asked about making an LC someone here told me to only use a few drops. I dismissed this advise, but in reality they might have been right.

I prefer a cloned LC, or a true isolate from agar wedge, for my LC's
