Cottony mycelium growth
    #954527 - 10/12/02 04:05 AM (21 years, 5 months ago)

Hi all, this is my first post on this forum.
I have a question about my cultivation: I have some jars (PF tek) with BRF + VERM stored at 79? F. but with an high humidity (like 70/80%).
Some jars are 30% colonized and others are like 70% colonized but the mycelium grows fast but it seems like cotton, not rizmorphic for now.
Is it normal? what can I do now?
Thx in advance 4 the answers, bye all!

how long did it take to grow 70% of the jar? if less than a week, most likley cobweb. also mycellum is whiter than cobweb.

I don't think it's cobweb, i see some pictures but it looks like mycelium to me.
The jars have been inoculated 14 days ago.
Btw I read that cottony myc will not fruit or will poorely fruit, so I would like to know what to do
thx

>so I would like to know what to do

You can?t do much at that point. Just colonize and fruit as normal and hope they will grow properly.

But I have LOT of other jars in earlier stage, so if I can improve their growth will be better.
Any suggestion?
(with my 70% colonized cottony jars there's no chance of success even if they look very healthy?)
thx to all

I say don?t worry too much. I?ve had wonderful shrooms from cakes that didn?t have any rhyzomorphic growth.

I have had many cakes with cotton looking growth and a lot with rhyzomorphic growth and can hardly tell the difference after they fruit.
Don't remove the tape from those jars till they are fully done.

my pf jars are about 80% colonized, and where the myc first began growing (where the actual needle tip shot out the spores) is cottony looking, but around all the outer edges of the "growth" are rhizo's
even though im a rookie, i would say leave them, as long as the myc is a very pretty white color like mine. (slightly yellowish if its touching the inside of the wet jar)
if it looks more "greyish" than white, chances are its cobweb.

I'm sure it's myc, not cobweb.
But I only see some little rizmorphic "roots" spreading, and they're not so much.
Strange in my opinion, cause some jars are at 80%.
Btw I'm gonna wait and see what happen, my myceliums look very healthy

btw, i cant find in your posts what strain is that myc you have there. some strains are more rhizomorphic, while other strains are more fluffy...

my pf-classics are ALL fluffy, in contrast to ALL other strains i have experimented with.

good luck!!
