Will Agrocybe Aegerita fruit from a tray?
    #9551054 - 01/05/09 01:16 PM (15 years, 2 months ago)

I've got a few fully colonozed grain jars of A. aegerita. I don't have any strerelizable bags or an impulse sealer. So, I was thinking of fruiting them in a tray on supplemented sawdust. Anyone ever try this? Is it likely to work?
I can't think of any reason it would fail, but maybe you can...

Thanks for the help,
-DD

I think they need a live host my friend.. You can try, but I am not sure... Supposedly they were one of the first mushrooms to be cultivated. Let us know how it works.

They'll fruit just fine on any number of sawdusts. Trays are one of the commonly used fruiting containers in commercial cultivation of this species, from what I understand, so you should have no problems.

"Live host"? Like a tree? All of the pics I have found for aegerita people have fruited it from sawdust blocks.

Servator,
That's good news ...
I think I'll give the trays a go.

As I said, I am new, and was not completely certain, but here are the pics I found, of them growing on poplars.

A. aegerita is not mycorrhizal.  It just happens to grow on tree roots.  You can grow it on sawdust like most other wood decomposers.

What Paresthesia said. You can do trays, but you'd be better off buying some bags and finding some sawdust to do it the regular way. You can try the jar method with sawdust too.
