Cannabis causing blackouts/temporary blindness?

Today after smoking a blunt I basically went blind for about a minute. This has happened once before after smoking a lot of bud, but last time was about a year ago, and it lasted upwards of ten minutes, and seriously disturbed me.
The best way to describe it is that it's like when you get a headrush after standing up too fast and see spots for a few seconds, except it lasts much longer.
Has this happened to anyone else?

Yeah, happens to me, but almost always only when I stand up. I suspect it lowers your blood pressure, which standing up does as well, so it compounds it (for me) when standing up. Maybe it affects you even more. I'm guessing marijuana causes vasodilation since it causes your eyes to go blood shot, so that would cause lower blood pressure.

I get the headrush if I stand up too quickly... I LOVE that feeling.
But as for going blind- can't relate, that sounds pretty fucked up man.

the thing is, this isn't even triggered by standing up, I was standing the entire time...

You don't have to be standing up, it's normal for it to cause this. I meant, by me saying it happens when I stand up, that it happens when I stand up after smoking pot, and much much less frequently does it happen w/o, and when it does it's generally not as severe. I'll often have to sit down on the ground and wait for it to pass because I cannot see anything and I'd likely collapse had I not.

it definitely wasn't as bad this time because it didn't last as long, plus it had happened before so I knew that i probably wasn't gonna go permanently blind...
but it's still really unsettling.

Try eating beforehand. That should help prevent a drop in blood pressure.

A couple of years ago, while I was living in Oakland I had a similar experience.
As many of you know, here in the great state of California we have medicinal marijuana laws that allow one to procure cannabis from a dispensary/collective if you obtain a doctor's note of recommendation (it is not a "prescription" as many say, because cannabis is still Schedule I in regards to the federal gov.).
I went to one of the better dispensaries (it's by the "Harbor" for those in the know...) and purchased what I was told was the best and most potent flower they had at the time. It was called Intensive Care Purple, I'll never forget that name, and it was some of the dankest stuff I have ever had. I proceeded to go over to a new friends house because he had a vaporizer. I had only used a vap once before and was excited, because I knew that vaporising greatly reduced the lost THC caused by combustion of cannabis. Upon arrival I sat down and chatted with my friend while I ground the cannabis and smoked a cigarette, maybe 15 minutes. I loaded up the bowl, stood up, placed the bowl up to the heating element, inhaled slowly and deeply, and held it...
...the next thing I knew I was flat on my back on the ground with my friend standing over me. Apparently I was only out for a few seconds (10 to 20 maybe) and I was lucky to not have injured myself, but I had completely blacked out, even if only for a moment.
krypto200 is right about cannabis having vasodilation properties which can be compounded by standing (or more specifically the act of standing up after sitting for a while). This can be further compounded lack of available oxygen in the lungs due to inhalation of smoke/vapor and holding ones breath for extend/multiple periods of time in succession.
It's a double whammy effect of low blood oxygen and low blood pressure.
Or, I should say, that is my educated guess. But I'm no doctor...

Sometime i go completely blind in one eye for about 5-10 minutes, it's the white blindness, exactly like when you stand up too fast. except i can't see ANYTHING, only in one eye though. I've had tests done on my heart and eyes, and im just fine in that sense.
I lot of things can cause temporary blindness, i've narrowed the cause of mine down to migraines, even though they are painless (except for one time).
This has never happened stoned though.

I've had the same thing happen to me. It happens a lot more now, than before. Today I was smoking a blunt while driving out in the country and the last hit I took I started to black out! Luckily I snapped out of it. It was fucking scary man. But I'm glad I found this thread. I feel a lot better about it now.

What happened to you is the closest you can get to an overdose on weed. You wern't getting enough oxygen to your brain which caused the black out and blindess. I never experienced the blindess but i have a friend who had a similar experience to you. But I have experienced the blackout. I took 8 hits in a row from a 3 tubed bong. We were standing on a huge rock and my vision began to cut out but i could still see. My legs were shaking like crazy and if my friend didn't grab me I would have fell over 20ft down a steep hill. It was an interesting experience but next time i'd prefer it to happen somewhere a little safer lol.

This is all about blood pressure. You can save yourself (sometimes) by tensing up your abdominal muscles when you feel it coming on. This raises your blood pressure and forces blood to your brain right away. Jet pilots are taught to do this to prevent blackouts during high-G maneuvering.
