Pasteurize or sterilize?
    #954107 -

Aight, I recently did some 50/50+ casings with PR BRF cakes. I got a killer first flush, and an alright second flush and then I got the green. I think this was due to the fact that I got busy and went from fanning 4 times a day to once or twice a day. But I also have some suspiscion that it was because I pasteurized improperly. So....do you pasteurize or sterlilize your 50/50+, and what do you find to be the benefits of your method. Thanks.

sterilise it deffinatelly.
You should realise though that as the substrate ages it becomes more succeptable to contamination.

So to sterilize, since I don't have any autoclavable bags yet, I should just mix up the 50/50+ and load it into jars and PC for an hour @ 15psi?

Also can't you bake it in the oven at like 450 and then mist it to water it backup just mist it first and keep close tabs on water and apply same amt of water after it cools. You should only pasteurize bulk substrates like straw/dung from what i hear since they give mycellium a better chance at surviving with the good microbes so contam has less chance to get a hold of it.

Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.
