my girlfriend and i have been together for almost 2 years. i love her very much. she has recently asked me to stop smoking pot for a year. she's smoked with me before, but has never liked it, and she gets uncomfortable if i am high and she's around me. I smoke very infrequent, maybe 2-3 times a month, but for some reason it would be a huge deal to her if i quit for a year. i want to make her happy, but i think it is such a small issue, it shouldn't be 'banned'. i most certainly could do without it, but it's fun every once in a while to get fucked up, just like casual drinking. it also has some creative value to me. hm.
what do you think?

Well, Blastrid, this is quite the quandry.
On the one hand, you love yor Gal Pal, and want to Please her, but on the other: You have the right to enjoy yourself.

Her wanting you to "Quit" may be some sort of 'Test" - Girls, especially younger grils (teens till early 20's ) like to set Rules and have Games in the realtionship to see how 'much' you like them. Some say "You cant go out with your Boys anymore" Some say "Quit Smoking - Quit Drinking"

Since you are telling me your habits are so infrequent, she is not worried about your health, but more about how 'strong' your tie is to her- Quitting for her would Prove how much you love her. (Bullshit of course, but its True for her)
I suppose it is truly up to you.

My advice would be, smoke a joint on the days she doesnt come by - Put your paraphenelia away - Live the Life on the downlow - be a stealth smoker. Frequenly air out your room and retire the rasta hats Just dont bring it up - If she asks if you Quit tell her, You dont smoke as much - Its not a lie - Its the Truth. - Truth is realtive, rememeber?

If she Loves you and your Habit is not detrimental to the realtionship or your health, I see no need to quit, to soothe her insecurities . But, pay heed, for this may bee seen as a Lie , or deception and cause her to get upset - Proceed with cautuon and try to avaid the Issue - It may just go away.

I'd like to suggest a very interesting and psychologically useful book that utilizes the modern day playing card's symbolism (which is derived from Tarot). It is entitled 'Human Types: Essence and the Enneagram' by Susan Zannos. Apparently, I am a 'King of Hearts' - coming from the Intellectual part of the emotional center (utilizing the enneagrammatic centers, along with card symbolism - fascinating!). The analysis of type was right on for both my Lady and myself. Perhaps you might consider acquainting yourself with this model.
