Are there any "revolutionary" features, or does it just look a bit different? I mean, do we get a new file system, new explorer or what? Is it just XP V3.0?
Wonder if there's a program compat list around someplace. If it would run UTorrent, Photoshop, JRiver and Office I might give it a whirl
edit: LOL you can't download it using firefox..

But you can download it using utorrent and yes, utorrent works fine. Nearly everything does.
There's not a new file system, but it supports 'libraries' - basically, instead of just the usual "my music" and "my pictures" folders, it can collect files from any folders you specify and display them in these virtual folders (libraries). You can make your own libraries, and specify whatever folders you want to be in there, including network folders! So your "my music" can contain files that are held on multiple different computers.
It's something that they were promising with WinFS. But that didn't eventuate, so they've rigged up an equivalent feature. I think it's pretty cool.
Explorer itself is pretty much the same as Vista's, though you have more power over what's held in the left-hand shortcut column.
By default the wallpaper is a cycling slideshow! It comes with a ton of really nice pictures, and it changes every now and then. You can also right-click on your desktop and choose "next wallpaper".
Best of all is the way you can drag a window to the top of the screen to maximize it, or to the side of the screen to get side-by-side view. The MS research team found that people often wanted to look at two things next to each other (especially those with widescreen monitors) but they had to resize the windows themselves if they want to do that. Now you can drag a window to the far left and it will take up the full height of your screen, but only half the width. Then drag another window to the far right, and it'll take up the other half of your screen.
Of course, basically everything I've listed can be achieved with third-party programs, but it's nice to have those features built in.

Yep, that's the first thing I did. It makes it much worse, IMHO. And much uglier. It's better to have it always combine, but it's still inferior to the old taskbar.

Sorry Ferris, I was wrong - the classic look is still there, in accessibility options.

I found a workaround for the quick launch! Right-click on the taskbar, go Toolbars > New Toolbar, then browse to a folder (any folder) that you have filled with shortcuts. It's functionally the same as the quick launch.
Then go to the taskbar properties and say "never combine" and there you go - almost identical behaviour to previous versions of Windows!

Are you using IE? I used the IE tab in Firefox, seems to work just fine, + I got 4 beta keys out of all the trys of downloading it.

im using ff3 on archlinux...so double fail according to M$...lol.
I will look for ie tab plugin and see if that helps.
peace
EDIT: only available for Windows, since it imbeds actual IE in a tab. That means I guess i can't get it, microsoft is so shitty for doing things like this (not IE tab, but the fact i have to be on windows AND using IE just to beta test windows7, seems they would be dishing it out to linux users quicker than current windows users IMO...)

it seems like they really payed attention to problems in vista when it fails to boot, it asks at the next start if you would like to run the repair (which is now on the hard drive rather than dvd) everything seems a lot more stable and complete

I use Windows with Firefox and had no troubles downloading it. I used bittorrent to get the beta, and firefox to get a key. BTW the keys are the same. There's about 10 keys available, any one is valid, if you get stuck I can PM you a key.

There's nothing illegal or immoral with downloading a free file from bittorrent rather than the official server. This is just the same thing, but easier for people not using windows.

I agree, but when I burnt the DVD and popped it into my laptop a virus spawned forth. I had scanned it with AVG and came back clean, does the same thing when I mount the ISO too.
