"195 proof drinkable methanol" ethanol is the drinkable one. everclear is 95% 190proof grain vodka and will evaporate cleanly.i still think the zeolites are a waste of time and money. if you really want it stored dry with zeolites then extract with straight everclear, put it in a bottle and let it all evaporate. then dry a small amount of everclear with zeolites pour this in the bottle with the evaporated extraction and cap it quickly. it takes some time for 99.9% ethanol to suck in moisture from the air

Veering WAY off topic, but: In reply to:
Other wise dessicate the extract and add it to perhaps glycerin forming what in herbal medicine is called a glycerite
if you mean adding glylcerin as a preservative, then I'd not recommend that. We've had herbal glycerites go moldy on us....

"blackout, listen to what i mean, not what i say." what?? i was just clearing up the fact that ethanol is drinkable and methanol is not. if you just got them mixed up then your post makes sense and i was just replying to your bit about not knowing where to get high strength drinking alcohol without distilling yourself. well everclear is available in the states. it is banned in some states though. i cant get it where i am but i have my own still and can get it to 95%.
just dont want some kid mixing methanol up with ethanol

Thank you, you answered one question that I was wondering: How long does it take for the alcohol to re - absorb water.
Using the anhydrous alcohol in a closed extraction and then evaporating under a vacuum to a storable amount of alcohol is theoretically superior to evaporating to crystal and re - dissolving. Under the vacuum the crystals would never be exposed straight to the air because you would only evaporate to a more concentrated solution and store that.
However, since money is tight these days I will probably try your suggestion. Someday I will score a vacuum pump and a bell jar.
As for Zeolites being a waste of time and money: My 1 Lb. sample is coming to me free of charge, and the phone call took 3 minutes. Furthurmore, the zeolite crystals are around $2 a pound. So forget that thinking... they are cheap and more readily available than anhydrous alcohol.
Anhydrous alcohol is the only substance I have so far heard that can preserve these crystals. The zeoltites are the only means to obtain anhydrous alcohol at a reasonable price and they are in the mail. (Although like I said there is an idea that ethonol contains enzymes that break down psilocin...)

i just meant i wouldnt bother with zeolites at all no matter how cheap. that is brilliant you got them free though $2 a pound is very cheap.i have read about 5kg costing $100. they can be used indefinitely too. i too would prefer the crytals not to be exposed to air, makes sense. anyway i dont know how fast it absorbs water back into itself. it would depend on temperature, humidity, exposed surface area. my tips would be to work with low humidity and low surface area i.e. a full bottle with a very thin neck exposed to the air

I was thinking about the alcohol distilation with the vacuum and I remebered these. http://www.mycosupply.com/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi?preadd=action&key=VACU01 You could put the zeolite in here with some sort of screen suspending it halfway up the containter, pour the alcohol in and then vacuum seal it. Would this work? I just had a thought. Because you are not pouring it in a vacuum mabey it wouldnt have the same effect. You could store the extract in these though Paint them black and put the crystals or whatever in them to prolong shelf life. Just some thoughts.
