Relays don't have inputs and outputs. They have a coil voltage, and a switch/contact rating. I think what you were suggesting is he use a low voltage thermostat to control a relay, which would then control the line voltage heater. Such would work, but would be expensive, hard to wire for an inexperienced person, and unnecessary. You can get them locally in most places, or order a pre-wired line voltage thermostat online.(scroll down to ACF pre-wired thermostat on that page)
Every hardware/electrical store in the country will have 'line voltage thermostats' where the ambient temperature switches a set of contacts rated at 120V/240V which will operate the heater without relays.
I still say to move the whole operation inside your house and forget the dog and pony show of trying to grow in a shed during winter. There's nothing to be worried about growing oyster mushrooms for food. RR
scuze the over simplification you are right with the coil voltage and thing... keep in mind this guy hooked up a breaker (which is still pretty easy). What is the cost of a line voltage thermostat vs. a relay and some wire? I was thinking the relay that would do the job could be sourced for $12, $20 at the most. Those prices are in canadian dollars. I'm guessing the prices are in us dollars on that link. Quite the price difference of 200%+

lol... relays can be ripped out of any car and installed in the pocket at any junk yard for free

LMAO, that too but would those be of high enough rating?
They can also easily grow legs at work if you work in a factory, usually there's some really decent spares hanging around.

Thanks for that link RR, my local hardware store wants $85 for that thermostat! You just saved me $50. Looks like I gotta send you a money order for the shroomery dammit.

I believe what you are looking for is a rheostat.I may be wrong but a rheostat controls how much voltage you want to supply something..These are really cheap.

Repeat Cycle Timer: Like I mentioned, I prefer this timer because it offers a very short off time of one minute. I like having finer grained control as I can tweak the time settings to prevent water droplets from build up in the greenhouse.
- ($85.00) HERE
(Scroll to bottom of page)
I am looking at building a simiar setup and I was wondering what the repeat cycle timer would be used for?
The temerature controller would turn on the heating device and would also turn it off.
The humidity controller would turn on and off the fogger based on humidity levels.
I would then just need a standard timer to turn on and off the lights to simulate daytime.
Any ideas what the repeat cycle timer would be used for in the setup???

I appreciate this thread!
This week, my project has been getting everything ready in my greenhouse in my garage. This thread has been a big help :-)

As Luther asked, what's the repeat cycle timer for? I assumed it was for the rh fogger. Also if I live in a warm area and will be keeping the room at ideal temp (74ish) I wouldn't need the heater and circuitry correct? Also can any one give me info how the FAE is getting cycled? Thsnks
